Please read this article on the massive weirdos who are largely running the massively powerful and big-money AI industry in the U.S. today.

This post is unavailable.

I genuinely feel bad for Eliezer Yudkowsky and his partner over the very real terror they seem to feel about AI killing us all - but these are not well people and they need therapy, not insanely influential advisory roles at the top of government and industry. time.com/6266923/ai-e...

“Yudkowsky is the person who connected Shane Legg and Demis Hassabis to Peter Thiel so that they could secure funding to start DeepMind, which is now Google's AI research division.” Yep, that’s the wacky sex cult AI doomer guy proving instrumental in Peter Thiel funding DeepMind.

verysane.aiAI Safety Is Mostly A Sex Cult In Berkeley, CaliforniaWe might some day have “AI Safety”, as a science or policy area, that is not primarily a sex cult in Berkeley, California, but it does not currently exist.

And once again, here’s OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in 2023, praising wacky AI sex cult blogger Eliezer Yudkowsky and speculating on if he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize:

Almost the entire US technology policy space has been taken over by rich funders and consultants who genuinely believe the below wackadoodle sci-fi AI scenario is extremely likely, and that preventing it is the most important thing we could be doing right now. www.verysane.ai/p/ai-safety-...

Eliezer Yudkowsky - who, again, is immensely influential among the leaders of big AI companies and the US tech policy ecosystem that his rich fans have all but taken over - seems to think the only way to stop the AI apocalypse is doing straight-up eugenics to make “smarter people.”

The immensely politically influential Eliezer Yudkowsky believes that nuclear war is better than letting AI get too smart - and hey, it’ll all work out for humanity if we make sure a small “reproductive population” survives the cleansing fire. Cool! Normal!

I can see a scenario where AI does cause a whole bunch of deaths, hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands DOGE ALREADY IS DOING THAT! Climate change, ALREADY DOING THAT! Does AI have risks, no doubt. Probably economic and societal, shitstorm coming, not a robot apocalypse.

From a strictly logical standpoint, this is stupid. If a Superintelligent AI is inevitable, then all this accomplishes is delaying its creation. If it is not inevitable, than this extreme measure is unnecessary.

Oh God, one of the 'only thing that matters is leaving the only habitable planet and living in space boxes on dead rocks, because sci-fi says so, so let's wreck Earth' dimwits!

evil-dumb is murder-suicide attaching love to hunger is like sewing your arm onto your leg - the story-sense fails Delight in love Disgust for harm A clear moral lens does moral math all day, taking emotional accountability for pragmatic (necessary?) harm to life loving money? is loving corpses

“This industry approaches regulation in this way because it has, at its core, a millenarian death cult that worships and fears AI, believes AI will end the world, feels compelled to create AI, and at least somewhat wants to destroy AI as an entire field.”

What if I told you that basically every American boy born since my invention considers it his highest calling to *be me,* and would do everything in his power to hasten the real life creation of the dystopian world required for my character to be relevant.

I apologize for my earlier article, which did not undergo proper legal review, and will not be able to be present on social media for a while.

anyway, i honestly don't quite grasp the duality of "this man is fine with nuclear winter if it prevents AGI, but also he's been so instrumental in all of us deciding to pursue AGI"

Subscribers to SE Gyges' newsletter still have it unless they've deleted it. Which I haven't despite already reading it. If you're familiar with their work, you know it's dense and difficult if you're not very well-versed in the subject. Now I want to see what I might have missed.

Followed by: “I considered putting all this in a footnote because of how unimportant Jeffrey Epstein’s appearance here is in the context of everything else. He is the Forrest Gump of evil shit. Of course he was here.” 👩‍🍳 😘

it would seem that unfettered wealth leads to psychosis in many people and we should tax the shit out of these people until they have to live like normal people or have them committed.

Treating a whole field as one psychology hides the internal disagreements. I would test institutions by incentives, claims, and actions, not infer motives from their existence. Is that too generous to the people running them?

Wow, it's so much worse than I realized. This article was horrifying. Like, the 'druggie rape cult is hosting summer camps for kids and now we're giving them billions of taxpayer $' horrifying. What the actual fuck?

Not the point but there's speculation he's wrong on that, that because we have tapped all the easily accessible energy (coal/oil near the surface) already, if civilization has to restart from square one we won't have the available energy to reach modern society.

I wonder what he'd say if someone suggested, instead of global nuclear armageddon, simply bolsheviking all the tech CEOs and their supporters. Because I suspect he'd consider that a stretch too far, which would raise some questions of who he thinks would be in that reproductive population.

I think the rationalist community pretty regularly forgets that the goal of development is not "reaching the stars", it is "human flourishing". A thing that helps you reach the stars at the expense of that is bad and should be discontinued

reaching the stars is probably ALWAYS at the expense of human flourishing. As no, I don't think we can flourish there, not to the degree we can on earth Of course I don't mean non-human discovery missions for the scientific knowledge. That's fine. I mean the colonization of other planets stuff

folks always like to say "but one day the sun will engulf the earth" and, yes, I guess so, but farming was invented 12,000 years ago and we have about 83,300 times the distance between now and then to work that out, it is one of the most extreme-opposite-of-urgent problems

I heard Senator Kelly explain why he doesn't really think space exploration is a solution to earths problems and it's largely because space is *so* less hospitable than earth that you'd have to do *far* more work than just fix the only accessible habitable planet we've ever known.

Improving the lives of your fellow humans gets you zero attention from hedge fund managers or the disgusting freaks handing out government cash though

One obvious argument against longtermism is that its basically impossible to set a course for civilization that will still be followed even 100 years later, much like 100 million. The best you can do is leave the world better than you found it and strongly advise the next generation on what to do.

Knowing how literally everything Yudowsky thinks about anything comes from science fiction stories he read, am I off-base in assuming this one comes from The Most Unhinged/Racist Thing Heinlein Ever Wrote

Guys who have never had to survive anything ... very cool that they constantly fantasize about lots of people dying and society collapsing. Its so cute that they think they would matter, or be alive and not reduced to fertilizer before year 1 is over. Lol.

Sounds like someone watched Dr. Strangelove and didn’t realize the eponymous character’s suggestion at the end of the film was meant to cause horror in the viewer, not admiration.

That is hilarious coming from someone who makes the point (especially in HP&MoR), that death itself is the ultimate enemy and the goal should be to achieve our goals without killing anyone. Going from there to "eh, as long as we have a few hundred k with genetic differences left" is bizarre.

fuckhead left high school before someone could explain to him what a genetic bottleneck is and why Radiation is the worst of all the bad choices for causing that bottleneck
