I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by LLM madness, mindless hysterical sloppers,
dragging themselves through enshittified apps at dawn looking for an "efficiency" fix,
vapid-headed techbros burning down the ancient heavenly connection to the cognitive skills they outsourced
I do firmly believe that refusing to outsource your basic cognitive functions to LLMs right now - as so many are stumbling over themselves to do right now, like hogs trotting to a pile of slop that’s been set up inside of a butcher’s delivery truck - will very much pay off in a few years.
The Wall Street Journal embarrasses itself with ledes like this: "Elon Musk’s SpaceX has agreed to invest $2 billion in his artificial-intelligence company xAI..."
Musk controls both companies. He agreed with himself. It's self-dealing and it's sleazy.
Do better, WSJ, please...
How corrupt is the Roberts court? It is inconceivable that the spate of more-power-for-Trump decisions from the Roberts court would have gone the same way if Harris was president.
We all know what's going on. The extreme right owns the government. It is dismantling democracy and the rule of law.
I don't know whether the Trump-Musk feud is real or just an elaborate con. What is clear is that both of them are sociopaths who lie relentlessly, have total contempt for laws they find inconvenient, and view the rest of us with pure contempt. If they harm each other, that's a win for humanity.
With the SAVE act passing through the house I would like to remind everyone that it took the Taliban only 3 years to ban women from speaking #waronwomen#SAVEact
it’s weird that we’re staring down the second unprecedented economic catastrophe in five years and instead of a novel coronavirus that will go on to kill millions of people this one is just “no one was willing to tell him no”
@tressiemcphd.bsky.social: "A.I. is a parasite." In the hands of today's tech titans, its "use case is starving the host — fewer teachers, fewer degrees, fewer workers, fewer healthy information environments." An "antilabor hammer." www.nytimes.com/2025/03/29/o...
I’ve had a several dozen requests to write or be interviewed about the 5th anniversary of Covid and said no to all of them… except this one with @alexis-madrigal.bsky.social. Here’s our chat on the things we’ve memory-holed, and where we go from here.

My colleagues and our broadcasts, devoted to telling America’s story to the world — honestly, fairly and with an unwavering commitment to the truth, are being silenced this weekend. open.substack.com/pub/newsguy/...
One small thing you can do to make the world a kinder place is take 10 seconds to use alt text to describe the photos and screenshots you post on here so our visually impaired friends can follow along. It also helps give context for jokes. Please and thank you. ❤️
Another major media commentator quits the Trump-nuzzling Washington Post to start a site on a platform whose key investors are outright Trump funders, and whose management sees no problem helping fascists monetize their vile stuff.

A THREAD on how disaster donations can be extremely harmful instead of helpful to communities experiencing a disaster.
I'll be using the movie Clueless to illustrate this issue but there is also decades of disaster research about this and plenty of first-hand accounts. #GreySky
The largest wildfire in California history -- the August Complex Fire, which burned more than 1 million acres -- occurred during the Trump administration
Mexican President "Claudia Sheinbaum on Wednesday hit back at US president-elect Donald Trump’s proposal to rename the Gulf of Mexico, suggesting US territory that was previously part of Mexico should be called 'Mexican America."
I wrote my first joke for the bots that follow me, hope you like it here goes:

Trump, DECEMBER 28, 2024: "I have always been in favor of the visas... I’ve been a believer in H-1B... It’s a great program"
Trump, MARCH 15, 2016: "I know the H1B very well... We shouldn’t have it. Very, very bad for workers... it’s unfair for our workers. And we should end it."
From Vivek’s Wikipedia page: In 2011, Ramaswamy was awarded a post-graduate fellowship by the Paul & Daisy Soros Foundation for new Americans, a $90,000 scholarship for immigrants and children of immigrants.
In 2023 Ramaswamy paid an editor to remove this from his Wikipedia entry.

i think it is very cool that the political press was basically uninterested in the fact that vance is openly adjacent to/pals around with far-right and Nazi-sympathetic maniacs
Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer is on tonight.
The classic tale of when people treat you like shit until they find out you can do something for them.

"Political Reporting in the Age of Modi and Trump" is a sobering compilation of conversations with Indian and American journalists and experts. (I'm grateful to have been included in this group.)
I learned a lot from the other folks, and you will too.

1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.

BIG NEWS: A Wyoming judge just struck down WY's abortion bans.
And get this: The judge invoked a constitutional amendment codifying a right to make health care decisions... that was passed in 2012 by conservatives who thought it'd screw Obamacare! Just backfired.
We explained this lawsuit here:
Bellingcat’s 10th anniversary celebration was a great reflection of its role today as an innovation hub for pushing open source investigations to new frontiers. The event brought together the broader community of journalists, tech folks & experts, and great things happen these all come together. 1/
