announcing my new think tank, the "people hate inflation, that's like 90% of why harris lost" institute

While I think you may be right, there are two issues with the action items one can draw from that explanation: 1) "fix racism and sexism" isn't a very workable election strategy, and 2) "only run old white men" is also not a good plan if you want to keep your coalition together.

I didn't say it was easily solved. Parts of the coalition will be very unhappy. A titled electoral college means you need a significant popular win to get over the hump. There is no question however that racism and sexism have more or less salience electorally at different times.

They're in a bit of a pickle. If they try "look, you have to accept backsliding on your policy goals and candidates who are too-conservative white guys, just for now, because we have to beat the fascists and that's more important," they'll face the rejoinder that that's what they said about Biden.

Could it be that people hated Biden’s policies to the right of Reagan and completely disconnected from the needs of the people, & that Harris running on the idea of being just like Biden with Republicans in her cabinet was a terrible mistake? No let’s blame racism, that way we don’t have to think.

"To the right of Reagan" my guy we had the biggest pro-union legislation since FDR. Like you aren't obligated to give a shit about organizing the working class but I'm a socialist and we all do. Plus huge climate investment, anti-strikebreaking regs, hell we even got industrial policy!

Maybe but it also was because Harris was a terrible candidate. Constant triangulation, word salad speeches, no overall direction for the country, and no motivation for the job beyond "I always wanted to be President."

Her motivation for the country was to save people like you from yourself. But you're too fragile and weak to understand that, so you make excuses why you are unable to hear the messages that every non-white voting bloc heard and understood. Maybe it's an education problem.

I voted for Harris because she would still be a lot better than Trump. Still, I stand by what I said. If you think calling me "fragile and weak" advances some sort of cogent argument, you have a big problem. Same with "non-white voting bloc". It identifies you as part of why we have Trump now.

Ask any politician if they would rather run for reelection on 8% unemployment (which is bad but *most* people obviously still have jobs) or 8% inflation( which literally affects everybody) and it's a no brainer. Inflation is an electoral killer.

Despite trumps idiotic tariffs, inflation isn’t particularly high right now, and items that my friends said made it feel high under Biden - interest rates and home prices - are coming down or leveling out. To me it is surprising to some extent.

Our federal government has a program called vaccines for children or VFC. It cost $5 billion a year and pays for the shots for uninsured and poor babies, no questions asked. However, it only covers shots that are on the official schedule which is set by the panel that is meeting today. 1/2

2/2 Any vaccine removed from the schedule by the committee will still be available but will no longer be free. The VFC covers half of the vaccine age kids in the US, so as many as 10 million kids will be denied vaccines if they are unable to pay. Vaccine denial for RFK, service denial for Miller.

I'd say shut up and take my money but creating too many think tanks drives the supply up, which drives prices for think tanks down, which causes inflation to fall, and I'm a Democrat and want Trump to suffer.

Harris lost because of Gaza, despite Trump vowing to be worse on Gaza. Harris lost because of Inflation, despite Trump's Tariffs being obviously worse for inflation. Harris lost because she's speaks word salad, despite Trump speaking little else. Every "reason" Harris lost Trump does worse.

Misinformation campaigns by supporters of chaos that constantly harped about how bad inflation was when it was getting better are 90% of why Harris lost. Note how inflation is getting worse again and will continue to do so yet those voices are silent now. Hmm. Wonder why?

I enjoy hearing about all the political tactics, the subtle communications strategies, and the slicing and dicing precinct-level results cross-referenced with demographic information, but I think you are absolutely right. The test is how Trump's failure to bring down the cost-of-living goes.

On universal healthcare, police violence, funding Israel's genocide, the surveillance state, corporate monopolies, and private prisons, there is no daylight between Republicans and Democrats. None. But I encourage you to keep pretending if it makes you feel better.

That’s what looking at poll resorts would tell us. But polls only give answers to the questions they ask, never to the questions they don’t ask. Polls always ask voters about the cost of living. Polls never ask voters if they’re bored.

Millions of Americans thought Joe Biden was boring. Millions more — not always the same ones — craved the entertainment they remembered from Trump’s first term — the ephemeral controversies, the personal dramas, the stories told in simple language. They got what they asked for.

I’m sure that’s a problem. I don’t think we can know if it’s more serious if polls don’t ask the question. After all, someone too apathetic to answer a poll may be more likely not to vote as well.
