Devil, unwind what's empty
Devil, unbind my heart
Devil, make the two ends meet
Devil, if I fall apart
Talk to me, devil, again
Baby I still have time
He/him
I can carry both truths in my heart & head; I wish more ppl would try.
The bottom line (if there can be said to be a bottom line to a heartbroken social media thread typed off the top of my head) is this:
The only liberation is a shared liberation. None of this will stop until we know that.

People donโt understand why I keep noting that BlueSky is not a bubble, it is a counterpublic. It serves its own organizational function: you can see in realtime in January 2025, on multiple types of social media, shouting that an executive order is instruction to an agency. This one stuck.
Iโm not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Donโt share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.
A RED STAR SHINES OVER BRAZIL!
Lula is reelected! Brazilians managed to mobilize and beat Bolsonaro, Trump, Meta, Google, Netanyahu, media oligarchs, corrupt judges, fascism, imperialism, apathy and hatred!
May this victory bring hope to all our comrades fighting across the world! We can beat them
With 83% of the vote counted nationwide, Lula has stretched his lead to 2.8 million votes.
That's a lead of 51.4% to 48.6%.
That puts him on track for a victory that could be larger than his 1.8% win four years ago, which would be an immense comeback. He's even up in Minas Gervais now, by 0.6%.
If the British had driven Turing to kill himself *before* he managed to crack German encryption, they might well still be Germany's Island Colony.
Good thing they didn't decide he was "too political" while his life was still too valuable. I think the Germans had a word for lives that weren't.

if you sign up this way and opt for it, i will print your PFP and i will bring a button press so that we can make and wear buttons of our PFPs which may help with the "who are these people who i only know from the Internet" problem
There was a fucking hole in our planetโs *atmosphere*
Like a legit, no joke, โthis will unravel our entire ecosystemโ hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines
As a species we decided, โwe will surviveโ
Letโs do that some more
putting this guy in the economic dirt would be the easiest thing in the world. all his money is based on either regulatory credit arbitrage or straight up government largesse. you could wipe him out with a stroke of a pen. you could also then jail him. and then deport him.
We desperately need leadership that understands this is not just Trump, it's the entirety of what remains of the Republican party, and the goal of the next six years needs to be a concerted political effort to neutralize and then destroy it.

Given that every Republican accusation is actually a confession, we should be more concerned about Peter Thiel's obsession with the Antichrist.
This skeet is about the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign.

Periodic reminder that the right is vehemently against teaching sex ed because they do not want their children to be able to recognize or report abuse by elders.
It's called film "footage" because camera operators initially held the cameras with their feet. That changed after a film shoot in 1931, when an operator got a foot cramp and was forced to hold the camera in his hands. The "footage" he got that day was extraordinary.
That man's name? Hans Cameraman.
WOW -- Vance *defends* Vivek's reprehensible ad ๐
Q: Ramaswamy's campaign put out a controversial ad featuring his opponent's mother. Some Republicans are backing away. Do you think it was appropriate?
JD VANCE: Well, I'll be honest. Whether the ad was appropriate or not is not really my concern.
ICE causes man to wreck while his children are in the car, then tries to pry his kids from his arms. They got the wrong guy.
Toward the end of the video, an ICE officer says law requires the person recording to back up 25 feet and threatens with pepper spray.
(There is no 25-foot law.)
The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot
A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:

Israelโs Foreign Ministry attacking Brad Lander - a self-described liberal Zionist - by name, simply for doing protective presence, should be the final sign that the Israeli government would gladly sacrifice every last Jew in Diaspora to dominate more Palestinians with impunity.
"Looks like cops didn't investigate this, but still arrested her" is such a continual theme in this country, and it shows you how deep our social problems run that we basically can't organize a mainstream effort to focus on it.
Why are people still talking about virtue signaling? That's a problem when decent folks have some power and people want to appear like they're part of that. We're a long ways off from that state of things.
But they can't stop themselves. This is who they have become. They have chosen this path, and will follow it until it destroys either them or the whole world.
DHS raid on Rep. Omar is a great example of very bad by rule-of-law democracy standards, pretty good by consolidated authoritarianism standards.
Deeply wrong, with lies, bigotry, harassment, abuse of power. AND a sign of weakness, limited capacity, failure to make the dictatorship of their dreams.

Do you think unbending Clippy until he was a long piece of metal would be painful for him. Or do you think it would cause him to feel a great sense of relief
It's also worth noting that Russia simply can't defend itself. It can shoot missiles back, but it has no way of stopping the attacks. And the nuclear threats it relied on so long for deterrence sound increasingly silly. It's a remarkable illustration of decadence.
Immediately after Ukraine took out two of the five data centers run by the Russian tech giant Yandex, pro-Trump and pro-MAGA posts on American social media sites plummeted. The same happened to posts boosting Germany's far-right AfD.
Russia is engaged in MASSIVE election interference.

Listening to "It Can't Happen Here" as I travel these days, and the parallels with our own moment are genuinely uncanny - down to the $5000 checks. The only blessed thing is that, in this timeline, people proudly band together and defy Trump while joking openly about how he shits in his pants.
But that's also a bit bonechilling, because if Trump were not both terminally demented and hell-bent on testing every limit of his allies' ability to explain away his bizarre behavior, we would be genuinely fucked.
Unintended consequences.
According to cloudfare, the targeting of Yandex data centres by Ukraine has resulted in a massive drop in russian bots.
Could this have an impact on the American mid term elections?
