Wolverine embargo is up and I think it is...not good at all! The game attempts very little and succeeds at even less. Relentlessly uninteresting combat, largely shallow characters, stale level design. A fascinating example of AAA polish on a hollow shell of an idea.

I was turned away once it was revealed that the game is Logan/Jean slop. That's the most unnatural, uninteresting, hollow, shallow and sterile romance in Marvel universe. I suspect it is just as bad here as in every comics and adaptation of said relationship? There can be only Cyclops/Jean.

Saw this coming a mile away tbh, nothing they showed indicated anything really "wolverine" and moreso "we want to do a non Spiderman superhero game" despite not being willing to put in the effort to make it it's own new thing. A shame because wolverine could've made for a fun souls-like hack n slash

Dang, this is a huge bummer because the Insomniac has been amazing with its recent games. Love the Spider-Man games but sad to see my concern of not being Spider-Man and swinging/flying around in one of their games seems to have hurt it’s fun

How does it compare to the Insomniac Spider-Mans? I really liked those so I assumed (hoped) Wolverine would be on a similar level.

One of the bizarre things that stands out for me is the game puts so much emphasis on blood, but has almost no fun with its gore? Logan gets torn up, sure, but there's scarcely a decapitation or de-limbing to be found. Just a thousand claws inserted into a thousand heads.

I was worried this was going to be the case - I dont know what it is but it feels like we haven't seen big developers have fun with gore and giblets since the 90's to early 00's shooters. Is it too much to ask for heads to splatter like melons and limbs go bouncing across the room these days?

i've always thought this would be a good use for the Nemesis System or something similar. have "dying" be "getting screwed up bad enough he takes a notable amount of time to regenerate" and have the world state change a little while he's out, the guy who killed you is now a miniboss, etc

legit one of the game's coolest segments is the boss fight that actually plays with logan's regeneration in a way that actually works within those bounds to create a new challenge. do more shit like that!

that one scene was so cool and yet made me mad because it was like 12 hours into the game and was the first time it had tried something like it

I’m honestly not surprised. The more I saw them lean into the cosmetics, photo mode, and other flashy features , the more I felt like they were trying to distract us from the underlying game. A PlayStation exclusive I don’t mind missing out on

Now we ask the real question: Will the chuds continue hating the game for being too woke, or will they suddenly start defending it because the woke games media doesn't like it? Stay tuned!

I’m currently playing the first two missions and I have to say Jacob, I’m staggered at how limited the combat feels. There’s two main attacks (barrage and leap) and I just feel like there’s no skill or creativity to this. Dare I say, I’m feeling quite bored.

Also for a game that’s emphasised so much on the gore with its marketing, there’s a distinct lack of visceral physicality to this violence. Maybe they toned it down after the State of Play in June but still, it’s remarkably stale.

I really feel for the Insomniac team who’ve clearly put so much hard work into this thing (you can see that in the animation, particularly how Wolverine moves which is really cool) but something has gone askew in the game direction along the way. I really hope it picks later on…

I never like it when games I’m looking forward to turn out to be underwhelming, but in this case, it just frees up my September for Onimusha and Control.

Skill Up's video on it echoes a very similar opinion. Personally, I didn't really like how much it felt like the Spider-Man games played themselves and I guess this is an even worse example.
