these are so clearly only controlled by humans it’s astounding how much everyone gives elon musk for lying to everyone all the time about everything

can't stop watching this clip of a tesla Optimus teleoperator taking his headset off before properly logging out the robot

They are going to do surgery on you. We won't need prisons because on of these can be assigned to escort criminals around. Robots will eliminate poverty by "providing economic opportunities." (*actual stuff Musk says)

It is a MATTER OF TIME before one is used for murder. Some billionaire will get knifed or their cocktail poisoned by a mechanical turk in a vr headset making $5 a day in a 3rd world data center.

i don't know about you but if i didn't know any better i'd say elon wants to hire wage slaves to do the robot thing behind the scenes. like uber but you're somebody's robo-bitch having to control a robot doing household chores and shit

Never forget that Elon was shown a plan to solve world hunger, with a price tag of $40B. His supporters whined that he "didn't actually have that money, it was all tied up in stocks". A week later he announced a plan to buy Twitter for $44B, using money from stocks he owned.

honestly they should be bragging about how good their teleoperation tech is, there are remote surgery bots that put this thing to shame on fine motor but being able to put a human shaped thing in situations at no risk to the operator is fucking amazing. but firefighters are volunteers so no market.

This exactly. Same with LLM AI. LLMs have their strength, but its almost exclusively in the realm of science research where experiments generate tooo much data to feasibly go through purely by hand. But thats a tiny niche, not something they can sell to everyone to keep making line go up.

LLMs have their strengths in the consumer space too! …just in an extremely mundane "incremental upgrade" sort of way that doesn't sell software or devices. Like, take yesteryear's voice assistants, but run the input/output through an LLM for inference and formatting? Boom, more natural language.

Nah, theyre awful at most everything else. LLMs are just pattern recognition machines. It doesnt think or create or have a clue what is info or visuals are accurate or inaccurate, only what its data shows is a common response to the prompt. Its why it hallucinate and gets things wrong constantly.

It feels like he's been inches away from it all falling apart for years now. I don't know what it will take to finally end him at this point. I sorta suspect the answer will end up being really boring, like his empire will just collapse as a consequence of the coming recession

It's more troubling to think that people are increasingly pretending not to notice patterns of over-promising and under-delivering if they're in too deep and need to keep alive an illusion that won't scare casual observers

I wish I knew less about him. He was a knob in 2018 when he tried to push himself as an out of touch meme guy while dancing around SEC violations, and a reliable knob since then. I learned to stop relying on coworkers that looked up to him

When I first heard about his rocket aspirations in the early 2000s, I was a sci fi nerd who was excited about what seemed to be his driving mission, but his huckstering has been clear since then for anyone caring to notice, and it didn't take long for me to acknowledge be was shit

So hear me out Terminator, but there never was a war and the 1% makes the rest of humanity believe there was by secretly operating drones looking exactly like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Elon Musk is the reason people say "reinventing the wheel" as the ultimate in futility. Next, he will try to sell an X-shaped wheel as an improvement, simply because he's infatuated with the letter that's usually used to stand for an algebraic unknown. "Twitter is not well known. I'll call it X"

when like 80% of your national economy is grifters operating on about the same level it's probably the smart move to refrain from going around noticing shit in public, lest you kick off the next great depression and everyone notice *that*
