Agreed. Raise taxes on the wealthy and you largely fix inflation and the k-shaped economy--two sides of the same coin. Then pass #Medicare4All to rein in cost of healthcare and prescription drugs. Hell, let's give all public employees a raise too! We can do all this and prosecute ICE criminals.

Ambiguous dem "affordability" rhetoric rings hollow because party establishment has a clear track record among voters of refusing to challenge consolidated corporate power the anti-corruption tack at least feels new and there's no shortage of messaging pegs

even if it's very possible this ends with a Kelly or Newsom presidency where any meaningful anti-corruption rhetoric is immediately supplanted by platitudes about "moving forward" and "turning the page" toward a new era of status quo corporatocracy

Also no normal people are using the phrase affordability because it’s meaningless. Use words everyday folk use! Rent too high Income too low My boss is too rich The president is stealing our tax dollars in plain sight and no one does anything! Etc

They can't. Dems are just as addicted to dark money as the MAGAts. Most believe that the only thing they're really trying to do is convince the oligarchy to switch to supporting them more than they support the MAGAts. If they win in Nov, everything will be smoke and mirrors status quo maintenance.

dems would be well served by ditching the ambiguous "affordability" platitudes and just hammering these clowns on corruption, all day every day. That's what they did to Orban in Hungary

that would be assuming that dems actually want to take power. they do not. they want to be able to blame others and keep on collecting money and perqs.

need enough big insurgent election waves to be able to change party leadership. the party is currently run by an array of unprincipled career fundraisers who are backstopped by AIPAC and theyre never gonna lift a pinky to stop corruption & influence peddling OR improve material conditions

Dems can run on both by hammering them & their patrons on antitrust issues A smart dem campaign wld prioritize empowering voters by holding gov officials & ice accountable for abuses of power, expanding & reforming the corrupt Court & breaking up the price gouging mega corps

It is so exhausting that Dems' take is that everything Trump does is bad because it doesn't lower prices, and not BECAUSE IT IS BAD IN ITS OWN RIGHT. It's always "Trump's pocketing of billions doesn't lower prices," as if the pocketing would be okay if prices also went down.

When Zohran broke through with “affordability” it was because it was paired with specifics (freeze the rent, fast and free buses). I just sat through an open house primary where every single candidate said “affordability” as much as possible with zero specifics

Spanberger and Sherrill won by even more in less Democratic electorates with the same basic message and different specifics.

Specifics, or lack thereof, seems to be the problem with the Democratic Party consultant epidemic. They want to turn every win or loss into some kind of strategy lesson.

Like the Markey/Moulton race. So Markey wins. Does that mean we don’t have a problem with too many people hanging out in politics for too long? Does that mean a younger challenger will never win? Does that mean the old establishment doesn’t have to change anything?

NO! It means that *this* younger candidate put his foot in his mouth with regards to trans people, does not seem genuine to his constituents, and seems to be cozy with the establishment, among other things.

There is no reason to drop one in favor of the other because they're entirely compatible (and complementary). "You can't afford things because the corrupt assholes in power are enriching themselves at your expense" is a very potent message. It's basically what Ossoff is getting great results with.

Corruption Tax. How and why hundreds of billions of US citizen’s tax dollars are being used for the undemocratic and blatantly illegal enrichment and whims of GOP members.

The issues are RIGHT THERE! For them... corruption, war, data centers, tariffs, healthcare costs/rural hospitals... They're all RIGHT THERE! What are Dems doing?! They can hammer on these things and still avoid talking about Israel... Which they clearly don't want to talk about.

I think Mamdani was right to focus on such "platitudes." And that focus complements, rather than being at odds with, attacks on Trumper corruption.

Someone in this party should be able to walk and chew gun at the same time. It’s all connected. Our economy, the fraud and corruption and it’s all tied to this rotting orange clown.

It is the one thing absolutely everybody agrees about. You are running against a party lined up behind a convicted felon who is behaving exactly like you would expect a convicted felon to behave if you gave him the national treasury.

Yep. So many brazen acts of corruption either committed by or abetted by Republicans at every level. The ‘affordability argument’ should be that things used to be until Republicans started stealing everything that isn’t bolted down (or is in some cases)
