Simple answer? Put 3 Dems into a room and get 4 differing opinions how to proceed. Put 3 Repugs into a room and they'll buy 30 uniform opinions. They understand how to win at the game as a minority. Dems quite simply don't as the majority! Go figure, eh? ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Dems hold no power in the state. They are not the majority. And the current GOP stripped the Democratic governor of his ability to appoint a successor. As frustrating as this is, elections have consequences. And the GOP will keep changing the rules until democracy is as dead as McConnell.

Because Republicans stripped that power away. No one can do anything anyway until McConnellโ€™s office releases a resignation or proof of life or death. Quit bashing Dems and appreciate the weak and dwindling Republican majority. Theyโ€™re shrinking. Thatโ€™s a good thing.

SOUNDS LIKE JUST MORE DEMOCRAT BASHING, like the Russian trolls do? Where to even start? 1) Thanks to daft, naive voters who gave corrupt Trump/GOP full power in House & Senate, Dems have zero power even for a committee. 2) KY State Legislature (also GOP), is who replaces Mitch via Special Election.

I guess McConnell would be offended if candidates were running for His seat Before he died. These Repubs sigh that want to be treated as Royalty! jeeez Republicans donโ€™t seem to Know When McConnell will die! They just threw the dice- & might end up with a cardboard cutout representing KY in Senate.

I get the argument for why Beshears would rather have an empty seat than a living republican casting votes for the remainder of this year. But this is not good opticsfor the masses who rely on memes and headlines and don't read. Perception is reality.

Imagine what those memes would say if he were to force a special election and then lose the seat to a hard-core Maga Republican who then leverages the incumbency to go on to win it permanently in November. There is no advantage to Dems here. The seat is better off left empty and non-voting.

I'm with Beshear on this. Let Mitch be a bitch and go out the way he lived. Like a despicable piece of @#$% who cheated democracy. I look forward to having a headstone to piss on.

Who do you have in mind to replace him? And why? What is it you think someone else might do that Mitch isnโ€™t doing from his hospital bed? Itโ€™s not like Senators do anything these days.

I share your frustration. However, Beshear must tread carefully in this matter. I recently watched a video by a geriatric doctor explaining everything, but I cannot locate it again. If someone has access to that video, please repost it.

Ppl with zero knowledge will rush straight to insulting Dems A special election means a maga wins. Before the law change, the gov could choose from a list of candidates submitted by the former senator's party. So once again, a maga wins Currently, GOP is down a vote bec you must vote in person

Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m saying. Iโ€™m not sure what the Republicans are gaining with him brain dead and not telling anyone but every day he is not there and not replaced they are down a vote in the Senate and thatโ€™s a good thing.

We can't know for sure, but it's not easy to throw away a powerful member of your party. They stick together through loyalty. If McConnell is technically alive, Republicans will be scared to go after his seat because it means the loyalty pact will be broken So they are tolerating losing a vote

I don't know, maybe because they're not in power......๐Ÿค” Do you put out these stupid questions just for "likes", or do you really have no clue about civics? Are a MAGAt(pronounced maggot ๐Ÿชฐ)operative? Inquiring minds would like to know.

I just called Governor Andy Beshears office asking about his plans to visit Mitch McConnell and get proof of life or to be able to fill his seat. If anyone would like to call and leave a message as well his # 502-564-2611

Mitch McConnell trolled Ruth Ginsburg on her deathbed. He laughed and grinned with pure joy at the fact she was going to die. I have no empathy for Mitch McConnell. His reckoning has arrived!

Aside from being completely out of touch and fecklessly incapable of meeting the moment, the centrist Democrats are now essentially Republicans. Iโ€™m not just rolling my eyes and bitching here. Iโ€™m fucking furious. Jeffries, Schumer, Fetterman and the likeโ€ฆ these fucking scumbags.

Seriously??? I mean SERIOUSLY??? What are Democrats supposed to do that's not illegal???

If you think about it and as Dems in KY have said, leaving the spot open prevents Congress from filling the spot, thereby leaving the GOP with one less vote. If Bashear puts a Dem In, they most likely will not make the cut, also leaving shorting the GOP a vote. So doing nothing solves it.

Mamdani got on TV and explained that he searched for a way to arrest Netanyahoo, but it turns out the mayor of NYC doesn't have that capability. He then called on those with the power to arrest him to do so. Bashear should learn a lesson.

Thy're stuck on their decades old strategy - vote for us because we're not the Republicans, even though they have no pallini's once they're in the majority or any other time for that matter!

Because itโ€™s too far outside their comfort zone. They want to maintain the status quo and be the plucky underdogs who make indignant speeches but actually do nothing.

The explanation is it's easier to cite minority status for not doing anything for constituents. When they have majority it's awkward. They have to designate a villain, eg Manchin, Lieberman, Sinema, Fetterman...

How...nice...of you to blame Dems for all the voter suppression efforts of the GOP. The gerrymandering, SCOTUS killing the Voter Rights Act, attempting to steal voter rolls so they can have their stooges report Dem voters as fakes or illegal when they aren't, trying to make women nonvoters.

They seriously make me feel like i'm wasting my vote. Which is not to say I'll vote gop bc I think they all are vile at this point, but the Dems are such a big disappointment at this point, FuckN DO something!!! ๐Ÿคฌ

What exactly do you want them to do? The governor has the power to hold a special election once the seat is open. Having a comatose Mitch is better. Do you really think a Dem is going to win a special election?

Itโ€™s like asking why the sun doesnโ€™t turn to ice. The problem is expecting the sun to turn to ice. Iโ€™ve always voted Dem, and I can say with confidence: Dems will fuck up the simplest goddamned things. I just canโ€™t vote for gopnazis and never have or will

Gov BESHAR Cantt replace McConnell with a Dem anymore saying he can is either a troll , a bad faith poster or just stupid. KY LEGISLATURE in 2024 passed a law of regarding Senate succession forbidding current GOV(DEM BASHEAR) from replacing him w/another Dem,BESHAR can't force way into๐Ÿฅviolates Hipa

Itโ€™s not the Democrats. The Republicans have a vice lock on the government. You can only blame their lust for power for this shameless smokescreen. Look at how they dealt with Lindsay Graham.

The state Law came about because of the states gerrymandering. The Supreme Court has signaled with rulings they are in favor of gerrymandering because if proportionately outlawed at least 2 would never recuse in a decision that would Impeach and Remove themselves.

Well, Maxy just what is your suggestion because it is a Kentucky Law and changing the current law would not consequently effect McConnell because it would be a jeapordy.

MAGA judges won't overturn the unconstitutional legislation that prevents Beshear from nominating a replacement. Beshear will be impeached if he tries. GOP is -1 in the Senate till January. Maybe try gaming out the actual possibilities to understand things?

McConnell chairs the important Senate Rules Committee and the Appropriations Defense Subcommittee. I missed part of her talk on this topic yesterday, but I think HCR was pointing out that in his absence, the Cmtes may have the ranking member (a Dem) act as chair, which could also be beneficial.

People demanding that Beshear do something donโ€™t realize that he is hamstrung in a Republican supermajority state. The best thing he can do is make some noise to expose the cover up and let the seat remain vacant. Sit back and wait so that hopefully Thomas Massey can run and win as an independent.

People are so desiring of a fireworks display that they're willing to burn down houses to get one. Not to mention the "sit on your own balls" effect of the near-constant blaming of Democrats for Republican shittiness. And I say this being a registered Independent since I turned 18 in 1991.

So, who's collecting McConnell pay? I understand the politics of this, but not knowing the status of an active US senator is ludicrous. Rest assured, if this was a Democratic senator, the GOP would be screaming from the rooftops.

It arrives until there is a certificate of death signed by the coroner. The GOP would take whatever strategic stance they needed to ensure their outcome. That might be hide, it might be replace, but the specific legislative realities are what would drive it, not angry posters online.

I'm curious about the date of death. I've had to get several death certificates signed in a previous gig, so I know that side of it well. Appreciate your input regarding the politics of it. We deserve better.

That's a huge difference on major issues and events. Republicans CAN scream from the rooftops- from 1500 locally and nationally coordinated radio stations reaching 50 M/wk and Dems can't compete w that AND DON"T HAVE A FUCKING CLUE. All they have to do is use AI etc to analyze, expose it, kill it.

Meet the senior staff running Mitch McConnell's DC office. We pay their salaries. Weโ€™re entitled to know where Mitch is: robert_steurer@mcconnell.senate.gov melissa_bennett@mcconnell.senate.gov david_popp@mcconnell.senate.gov dylan_vorbach@mcconnell.senate.gov terry_carmack@mcconnell.senate.gov

My Answer: โ€œCitizens Unitedโ€ Supreme Court decision I believe is one reason. That decision gave an unfair advantage to corporations and the wealthy allowing those with $$ to have more access to Congress reps-meeting their needs first as opposed to those of their own constituents who voted for them.

He should definitely do more. Make a public case, challenge the opposition, embarrass them, his silence is weak. But legally his hands are tied by the GOP state house who stripped him of his power. (Possibly illegally/so challenge that for one). He has no easy legal options here as sad as it is.

Think about it. If Beshear does *absolutely nothing* and doesn't replace McConnell, the Republican Senate Majority is down *2* solid Republican votes, with Lindsey Graham's death. If Beshear replaces McConnell, Senate Republicans only lose *1* vote. **Dems have their shit together.**

Kentucky passed a law removing appointment power from the governor. Beshear can't do the thing you're demanding because he doesn't have the power to do it. He can only hold a special election if McConnell resigns or the Republican Controlled Senate expels McConnell.

He can call a special election once McConnell announces McConnell isn't a Senator anymore, and/or when the Senate votes to expel McConnell. That's it. The law removing governor appointment power was passed by the outgoing GOP governor to block Beshear appointing a Democrat replacement.

The law is likely unconstitutional and unlikely to survive a lawsuit, but the court case wouldn't be decided before the midterms. The whole thing is people who don't understand how government works trying to smear a Democrat governor because they think he has powers he doesn't have.

The angst should be pointed at McConnell (his team and family if he has in fact passed on) and the GOP for misleading the public, regardless of his status. It displays unadulterated, brazen contempt for the voters, a fitting epitaph for Mitch.
