Is it just me...or does that sound like it's just pretty much returning to normal...so it's not really a deal. It feels more like Donnie failed when he started all this bullshit (as we expected) and back peddled to what was normal.

Are importers going to restock with a 30% tariff? Only if they think that they can pass along the costs or they can profit if the goods become scarce when the tariffs go back up depending on who is in the room with Trump when the next tweet goes out.

It is absolutely stunning to see the White House attempting to spin this as a 'historic victory' for Trump. He created a huge economic mess, took out the broom, metaphorically speaking, and cleaned up most of it, and he's a hero?? Trump blinked - period. Xi has got to be laughing over this one.

Realize that this is a 30% tax. 30% inflation. And the market cheers. All coming out of American consumers pockets who will now have less to spend on everything unless they get a 30% raise.

The People will suffer at the hands of Trump's failed tariff initiative. The answer to our problems is making the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share in taxes. Yet, politicians are continuously voted in that pass policy that does the opposite. The tax burden should not be on those struggling.

Exactly. A combination of higher taxes - mostly on the rich and some cost cutting must be undertaken to tackle the deficit which people forget about. trump is considering adding 5 trillion to the deficit by cutting taxes for the rich. This will hurt the everyday American more than people imagine

Wages remain the same. But other costs like energy will go up as Chinese parts needed to maintain systems. All input costs will be affected except wages but pressure will be there to maintain cost of living. Housing prices will rise significantly.

The market's positive reaction likely reflects expectations of stronger local industries, not just consumer price hikes. Assuming a uniform 30% raise is needed ignores these dynamics and the complexity of global trade.A 30% tariff on Chinese goods doesn't directly translate to 30% inflation.

All inputs will not go up 30%. Overall inflationary effects will be 10 -20% or so on final prices. Wild card is oil prices which impact everything from manufacturing to shipping. If sanctions come off russia and iran the price will collapse. Then all bets are off. My guess is that what will happen

Biden tariffs were on targeted items not everything. Most stayed. The 30% would not be on the 20% because the base cost remains the same and it is Americans that pay the tariff. The cost of the product to the importer is the same. So the tariff would go up to 30 from 20 not 30 on top of 20.

The pissing match didn’t have to happen at all. Wouldn’t it be interesting if it all reset to the original tariffs and then Trump, counting on the fact people didn’t know what those were, continued where they left off allowing Trump to claim a victory on something that already existed?

Scott Bessent identified Subsidized labor as an unfair trade practice. Almost every country subsidizes their labor with government-provided health care. In America, workers' health care is part of their compensation pkg., and part of a company's labor cost.

This is not a deal - Deals last longer than 90 days. Business needs stability not news cycle driven promos The chaos has led Ford to announce that it is closing down manufacturing plants in the US - so far from bringing manufacturing jobs back to America the 'Stable Genius' is driving them away

How the heck can retailers know how to order goods or price goods. All this up and down has to be really causing a lot of stress and uncertainty- especially to smaller businesses. Not to mention budgeting for staffing…

🤣🤣🤣 in less than 2 weeks of boats not coming from China, Dictator Trump is already running scared. He’s even managed to lower some tariffs that were already in place above 30%. No wonder he kept going bankrupt with decisions made like this. What a looser

I deliberately did a huge stock up last Christmas to starve trump’s economy. I buy local, from Costco, or from a California-owned co-op market. Trying to starve Putin in my microscopic way by driving my EV charged by our solar panels. I got these privileges from selling my house. Just lucky.

I really need more reporting around this to focus on the fact that the loss of confidence and trust in the US as a trading partner is not the kind of thing that comes back when a tariff is lowered. A lot of people don't seem to unlock that we're not going back to the before times with this.

Entire situation is to normalize import taxes. Do something ridiculous so you will be happy with what works out to a 30% sales tax. He lowered it by 300%!!!!!.. when it started at 0 or 10. And nothing on small purchases.

A 30% tariff that ends up being paid by the poorest Americans. This is defacto proof that MAGA morons are digitally lobotomized, utterly clueless about how international trade and tariffs actually work.

Smoke and mirrors. The big problem for the world economy is the massive uncertainty our lunatic president has created. Even if a perfect deal is struck, no one can ever trust that this madman may have a different whim on a different day.

So basically we are back to the Biden Plan and what did trump and his insiders get for it ?????????? Follow the money trail with ther trump insiders at The Executive Branch club in D.C. trump's new private club to get Senators in back rooms with industry titans Insider Deals R Us

Trump starts a trade war, gets owned by the Chinese, who know they are dealing with a lying, corrupt paper tiger.Trump retracts 145% tariffs, temporarily lowers them & claims “victory”. 1st he sets fire to the house, then throws more gas on it, then claims victory when others put it out. Typical Trump.

Raise tariffs, they retaliate, then you backslide them and celebrate the "deal"? Seems like a game of three card Monty. If Felon47 had not done anything, we would be better off with trade with China. Just another way to be corrupt.

Now we have two different 90 day pauses. One associated to liberation day (all other countries) and now a new one with China. Deals are finalized with actual signed agreements. Pause is something different. We need to use the correct verbiage! We are just kicking crazy down the road 90 days!

So, Trump’s notion that tariffs would bring production back to the USA was, indeed, pure bollocks. Of course, he will sell it as a great victory for his dealing skills, more bollocks, and the MAGAs will cheer him as a great leader, because it’s a cult….

Stop using the phrasing that the cognitive declining felon uses for the fucking love of god. It wasn’t a “deal” it was a fucking mess made by Trump and now he is trying to clean shit off the walls my just smearing it around to paint the walls.

Guess the “National Emergency” is over then? What’s the plan to make up for the “$trillions” lost due to tariffs “reductions”. We were counting on the “more money than you know to do with” for tariffs “Taxcut” to buy dolls. www.businessinsider.com/trump-says-u...

businessinsider.comTrump is very wrong about how much the US is collecting from tariffsTrump's claim of $2 billion daily tariff revenue is contradicted by US Customs and Treasury data, which show much lower amounts collected.

All these quotes come from the US side. Until I see some quotes from the China official I won't believe this is coming anytime soon. Really bad reporting overall to just repeat lies with no critical thought.

He promised to lower prices and then added 10% to anything not made in the US yet started a trade war to reduce our exports. He then cut programs that would create innovation, art and new medicine. The results are too well calculated to say this is simply buffoonery.
