Without federal funding, public media — and the truth-telling, community-connecting role it plays — is at risk. Local stations may vanish. Millions could lose trusted news and vital information. If you are ready to join the fight for journalism, donate now: n.pr/458sOhq

why would i dontae to you when you keep defending nazis? they ILLEGALY cut your funding and you still quote this administration like anything they say is credible? i guess you just actually like nazis and pedophiles. i used to love NPR now i cant wait for you to go out of business

NPR provides vital journalism, especially to people in rural and underserved areas. I will continue to support NPR as a private donor but I’m hoping that we can get some solid endowments and restore sanity in our federal policy to fund this important service.

I keep telling myself we'll get through this and be stronger as a result. In this case, that means that CBP will get many new donors and members during this time and will get their federal funding restored by a future congress providing them with greater funding overall in the future.

I am very much hoping for a brighter future and praying this is only a blip in our history. And I’m also hoping that we can all learn from this time and realize how important it is that the government work for the people, and not for their own twist self interests.

First, I need to know something: For whom did you and your board vote for in the last election? If any of y'all voted Republican, you voted to have your funding cut and I shouldn't be obligated to bail y'all out. If y'all didn't vote for Trump, then I'll listen to your position.

"Without federal funding, public media - and the truth-telling." Hilarious!!! This is coming from a lady that gave a TED Talk where she said "the TRUTH can be a distraction to finding consensus." GTFOOH. Translation - We skewed too far left for too long and got caught. Now we are scrambling for $$$

Public media is at the mercy of the government in power. It's all selective truth telling. We'll only source our news from where the general public is allowed to directly comment and allowed to COMPLETE the picture.

Stop it with these fluffy headlines. He took over the Kennedy center-which is in honor of an iconic DEMOCRAT-installed himself as chairman and he’s turning it into a mockery and a shit show. It’s disgusting. It’s not “shaking it up” it’s leaving his disgusting stain on the Kennedy Center.

So what’s more beneficial to npr?.. donating to the npr network or a local npr station. I’ll be honest.. I use the npr app all the time but don’t often listen via my local station because they don’t carry about 1/2 of the daily npr content.

That is precisely their reasons for doing it. They don't want America exposed to the unvarnished truth. They want the "Faux" News Networks and other compromised networks to disseminate the "news" and continue the Regime's lies and propaganda.

I don't know—maybe stop sanewashing insane dictators and their lickspittle lackeys? Keep siding that Overton Window instead of growing a spine. You'll vanish with the rest of complicit corporate media. Can't believe I used to be proud to give money to you guys.

Autocrats see the independent press as the enemy, and they don't support their enemies! Rising fascism worldwide inspired me to write an allegorical trilogy on its perils: unjust war; failed democracy; race-based oppression. See: amazon.com/dp/B0B1JNBCTK?

i’ll never forget years ago listening to a story about big ag’s total takeover of the midwest and hearing an anchor do a cheerful ad read for monsanto right afterwards lol. maybe you can give up the facade and just start running ads like all other corporate media does?

What about the Democrat insanity? Did you ever ask yourself how the Democrats lost to someone like Trump? Nope. The Dems have lost their way. Next time take border issues seriously. Not to Trumps extremes, just do your job. Dump some of the Wokeness and virtue signalling, gotten so annoying.

Well, Katherine, when you bent the knee and apologized and in front of Congress for not covering the Hunter Biden laptop story enough, I cancelled my 30 year membership. Last time I accidentally tuned in, I heard right wing talking points with zero pushback. So, in essence, fuck you.

So NPR can’t survive in a free market because not enough people value their content to keep it financially viable without taxpayer money — and somehow that’s a threat to democracy? That’s their take? I can see why they’re failing and why they weren’t worth the public funding they were getting.

What I am seeing with their defunding, is a strategy of the todays government trying to silence their critics, or the voices who pin points the wrong doings, that happens in dictatorships , they monopolize informers & keep only the ones who praise them, you are 100% wrong if you support that.

A number of you have a perspective problem. You accuse public media of bias (strangely, both a bias right AND a bias left) and yet you clearly have a bias of your own. A good news program doesn't join a side. It reports the news clearly so that YOU can take a side.

Laying aside that your very question is loaded, did you bother to count the number of times NPR got tone and information just right? Because they get it right with much greater regularity than probably any other source.

Lose lying Democrat propagandist that have been scammed the people to believe they were publicly funded. Now they are losing their taxpayer funding, and calling foul. NPR has been funded by taxpayers, businesses for advertisement, and a small amount of public funding.

There is an excellent case to be made that NPR & PBS are no longer relevant in today’s citizen journalist landscape. Why demand the gov fund your enterprise when everyday people do a better job reporting local news on their smartphones?

You would have never lost the funding if you'd have returned to objective reporting. When you forced out Uri Berliner that was the last straw. When any news organization employees only those of one political ideology that's going to be a problem no matter who it is.

"Millions could lose trusted news" TRUSTED NEWS? You clowns were complicit in getting Trump elected. You could have delved into his decades worth of shady deals, sexual assaults or Russian mob connections. NOTHING. You gave him one free pass after another & helped normalize his radical agenda...

...Then you had the gall to hold Democrats to impossibly high standards. As a former loyal NPR listener, GOOD RIDDANCE. You changed a decade ago & decided to quietly pushed a right wing agenda, but now you come crying to a left-leaning audience for financial support. FAFO

Why don't the mega rich just do what needs to be done? Why do we have to rely on all us economic pissants to save things? The big names we all know wouldn't miss the money it takes to fund NPR, or PBS.

PBS continues to employ both David Brooks and Amy Walters. They aren't interested in facts or reality. Just regurgitating the opinions of the elites and globalists.

While I've almost always disagreed with Brooks, I've felt it necessary to understand him and his. I don't want to be in a bubble and I require alternative thoughts from those who do not intend to lie and dis-inform.

Literally all you need to do to understand David Brooks is know that his son signed up for the IDF. And all you need to realize about the places that continue to print him and showcase him discussing foreign affairs, particularly over the last couple years.... Is that they suck.

You gotta stop playing the both-sides game. This post is a great example. You’ve managed to yet again, not call-out the orange felon. You can’t continue to do this. You must be truthful so the world can hold him accountable. You need to be transparent, and stop this nonsense.

I saved the figures. About 36% of registered voters didn't vote or went third party in 2024. Not only did they not ask for Trump, they weren't assed enough to bother going for Harris and now cope with trying to not blame themselves for Trump. (I wasn't one of them, I voted straight Dem ticket.)

I’m just not happy with your reporting. Your report on Columbia University pissed me off. We should be relieved they settled. That is depressing

Back then, I made it a game. I would listen every morning until the moment Cokie or Juan Williams came on (when they could spare the time from their day jobs at Fox). As soon as I heard either one, I was done with NPR for the day.

As Congress (meaning Trump) ends federal funding for NPR, the Trump supporters are also big losers. The reality of these program losses will sink in. I imagine they will still support Trump because he’s (making America great again). Boggles the mind.

With troopers like Edith Chapin jumping ship immediately, how can you lose? 😂 Try hiring fewer careerist scum bags and republicans in top positions who are there solely to hector you little piggies ever further right. You’ve been running scared since the W. Bush years and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Oh no! That's so sad! If only we could identify the people responsible for taking NPR's funding away. Perhaps they have something in common we could use to characterize them? A political party, perhaps?

Go to your fake fox news then or your robert rogers hate radio shows ,of course you will not hear about xenophobia, racism & plain hate in NPR news, by the way liberal is not wrong..it means freedom going forward, conservatism is backward.

I sometimes wonder why issues related to improving social justice, or the environment, or advocating for universal healthcare, or for equality in education seem “radical” to you. Such matters are the very least I would want for my grandkids.

The need for volunteers is urgent..The volunteers who are intelligent, open and trustworthy are desperately needed. Who can operate tv stations en bring their local news to the people.

Go fuck yourself. You're an apologist for fascism.

NPR@npr.org

Democrats have struggled to counter GOP efforts to frame itself as the party of "law and order." Some see it as a problem of messaging, while others think past and current policies may be to blame.

This is the point. Our FIC (fascist in chief) does not want you guys telling the truth. His fans might hear it. It might provide justification for legal action. The truth might harm him and his fascist idiocracy. Our FIC will no longer provide you with funding. THAT'S what you should be saying.

Time to fight back. You have a platform. I listened to NPR KERA all day yesterday and although you said funding was cut you still lacked the gumption to call out IT WAS NOT CONGRESS who cut the funding it was REPUBLICANS. Call that spade a spade, then I'll up my contribution.

What will all the fly-over people do without this bitch piping condescending, Socialist propaganda into them. Wizard of OZ all over the place. For weather warnings? Even the lowest IQ weedbender pulls out his IPhone 16 and looks it up….. Just like the rest of us. “World need more bartenders,”honey!

I will continue to donate to my local NPR station, but will not be funding nationally to support Republican Red State stations that voted public funding away... they are on their own... you reap what you sow... 🫤

This should also include red areas of blue states, such as the Adirondack North Country of New York and @ncprnews.bsky.social,whose listeners consistently vote for Republicans who have vowed for years to defund public radio. Why should people support NCPR when their own listeners voted to defund it?

Hi @steveinskeep.bsky.social - you might to let your boss know that by saying "Congress" has defunded NPR she is giving the false impression that this decision was bipartisan. As both you and your boss know, this decision was made entirely by Congressional Republicans. Why is it so hard to say that?

People like the NPR CEO, and NPR reporters like Brian Mann, refuse to say that it is *Republicans* who caused this - not "Congress" (as Maher says) or "your government" (as Mann says). Both of these people know better, but refuse to say it, because they are both intimidated by Republicans.

Really lie with a fascist pay the price now u want the working class to bail u out now is the time to start showing people who u stand for them or a fascist dictator think wisely People have the power of the vote and now purse which side r u on from Canada #ElbowsUp

She has the same little smile that maga people do when they are evil. It’s like she’s happy that she gets to take npr even further to the right. The liberal outrage media industrial complex is profitable and she’s excited she gets to make even more propaganda now.

Truth-telling? Your constant deference to the right since as early as 1996 (I remember Joe LaConte’s bogus commentary you aired, not mentioning he was from the Heritage foundation) has finally paid off. Let’s see if you can take advantage of your newfound freedom to undertake some journalism.

Funny, NPR, your post never mentions who we we would be fighting against. That would be *Republicans*. No Democrats voted to take away your funding. None of them. Your post: Completely indicative of your both sides mindset and why I stopped giving.

Please 'refine' your messaging on this! The FIGHT is not against "Congress"! IT'S CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS! You're undermining your own cause by not accurately pointing to those actually responsible. They're not after your funding - they want to eliminate you entirely and this is how they start!

I get the frustration with NPR, but local stations & networks are also going to be very negatively hit. All location stations are independently operated; even if they are NPR affiliates & air NPR programs, they also do local shows. At least check with your location station & look at donating.

Many local NPR stations are in places which voted heavily for Trump. He and other Republicans have wanted to de-fund NPR for years, and finally did it. This was never a secret, and voters in those areas voted for it. If the people that live there don't support NPR, why should anyone else help them?

My local NPR station in Detoit, WDET, was pleading for an additional 1000 "members" to make up the shortfall due to funding cuts, then in a story immediately following was arguing whether Trump's tariffs were really to blame for declining employment stats. They haven't learned. Just let it die.

I have been getting in constant texts, asking me to contribute to a lawsuit to save NPR. It looks like it’s sponsored by a republican organization. Are they scamming people who are trying to help you or is it legit? @npr.org

Why should I give NPR another dime when three times now in as many days, I have heard one of your correspondents falsely state that "other countries have agreed to pay" Trump's tariffs, supporting Trump's brazen lie that it will be them and not us who pays. I just heard it again on Here and Now!

Please go dark for a few days in districts where members voted to kill your funding. Those viewers must see the consequences of their votes last Nov. Not our job to financially make up the difference so billionaires get a tax cut.

A Constitutional Convention to restore the balance of power in the United States. The 28th Amendment: the Right to Vote. The 29th Amendment: abolish the Electoral College. The 30th Amendment: abolish the political chokehold of the Supreme Court. An illusion of waiting for the next election is a lie.

NPR - You had to go in the tank for the Dems. You had to be wildly biased in favor of the left. Just think, had you just been a bit fair from time to time you’d have your government hand out. BTW, the West Coast never did receive a tsunami alarm from NPR after the Russian earthquake. Shocking!

We are in rural NC and all the radio stations are right wing propoganda, with the exception of NPR. People here won’t get any other viewpoints when it’s gone. Democratic billionaires need to buy some media companies or we need to find some way to broadcast alternative views to rural areas..
