Husband just came in to tell me that since the assassination of Abraham Lincoln every American president has been alive at the same time as Herbert Hoover.

One day in 1964 I noticed that the flags were at half mast at the post office. I (then six, and fresh off JFK the year before) asked my mother who had died. She said Herbert Hoover. Even then, I had a vague idea of his place in history and was surprised that he had lived so long.

That's not even the most wild fact illustrating your point! The grandson of the first president who was born after the ratification of the Constitution died LAST YEAR.

Britain and Churchill would get you all the PMs from Disraeli to Brown, and also May, Johnson, and Starmer, I believe. Cameron was a year too late, and Truss and Sunak (and Burnham) also too young. Russell too, but Derby died before Churchill's birth.

Conversely, there were only 2 presidents who lived their entire lives while Hoover was living, both died in office, and we commonly refer to them using their three initials. Hmmmm.

Hoover. The great humanitarian. Negotiator of food supplies to occupied Belgium and France, despite the blockade. He told an interviewer he became a Republican because there was only one Democrat in town, and that one was the town drunk. Funny how things turn out for political parties.

IDK why I thought of it, but this chart also holds true with Winston Churchill. He followed Hoover by about 3 months in both birth and death. Someone in the OP's replies also pointed out that Hoover died the same day Kamala Harris was born: October 20, 1964.
