The hallmark of the modern reactionary is that they are so immersed in their own bullshit that they don’t understand how facile and corny their understanding of the world is.

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

The JFK moment was illuminating. These people don’t have an actual educated base of knowledge to draw on to make connections to support their arguments. They just throw out their bullshit and figure that’s good enough. He has no clue what AES was referring to much less what it meant. Blank slates

Nah, it doesn't matter if he got owned. He got exactly what they wanted. We're talking about it. Conservatives will get their "win" simply because cause this is getting posted. It matters not what was actually said. Only matters is that "Muslim Brotherhood" & El Sayed are in the same post.

I remember the Pope question. When conservative Catholics agree about a "Christian Nation" they really need to think about WHICH Christian. There was 30 years of rather deadly fuss about that just a few hundred years ago. Not to mention why the Pilgrims and Puritans came here.

Tommy genuinely doesn't understand he's a bigot, that's the wonder of the whole thing. I bet Tommy *still* thinks that El-Sayed somehow got out from under the his question.

Abdul el-Sayed turned 17 just 50 days after 9/11. He was a three sport athlete in high school and captained all three. The idea that he is still facing white racist children asking him if he’s a terrorist is appalling and a severe indictment of white culture in America. A massive indictment.

There's a tiny part of me that almost thinks that Tommy heard that last question backward and answered accordingly, but maybe that's the tiny part of the large part of me that can't believe that any one person could be such a putz.

For all the liberal-echo-chamber handwringing about Bluesky, whatever grouptexts Tommytomtom hangs out in are at least 157000 times worse. He and his dozens of likeminded Chads were just so certain that this one smarmy question fired from the heart of whiteness would reduce AES to dust on contact.

(If I say that “a tiny part of me…almost thinks” something, that means that I don’t think something; sorry to disturb your irresistible need to explain things to me.)

A tiny part of me sometimes almost feels like leaving Bluesky or, worse, writing a furious and deadly reply when that happens. Instead, I'm vicious with the mute button.

There is reporting that he comes from a Christian nationalist background, so whether on purpose or not, he did say what he believes

When Sen Schmitt proved he didn't know the difference between the NBAs Atlanta Hawks & the womens NCA# Iowa Hawkeyes he got praised by podcast bros for getting Jack Smith Youre right, same thing here

Tommy is exactly like the privileged wet-behind-the-ears asshole that yelled “red state” and “Trump” as he gunned his parents’ car past my #NoKingsGOTV event today. Probably can’t read…

they generally are not smart. I'm not saying they aren't potentially intelligent. but i've learned lots of "intelligent" folks aren't smart. most of them tried to talk to me about Jordan peterson.

TBH the other thing is their mission is to ask the question, not listen to the answer. It's the "have you stopped beating your wife?" strategy and sadly it works with the media and a lot of audience.

What kills me about the Tommys and Tammys of the world is how cock sure they are about their facts and their convictions...no matter how wrong they are. Why aren't we teaching kids the difference between a religion and a nationality? And that Islam is the second largest religion in the world?

Somewhere in a dark study, Sam Alito is furiously typing his upcoming opinion: Why Freedom of Religion Doesn't Mean White Christian Nationalists Can't Make The Rules

Now you know who he is bsky.app/profile/mari...

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

I have my doubts about Tommy being in good faith in asking this question. He kept repeating it as if he could not even grasp what AES was explaining. Sounds like "my mind is made up don't confuse me with the fact" attitude. Not at all a "genuine" disposition towards debate.

Tommy is a former staffer to Senator and Runner Josh Hawley. He's a Republican operative, pushing the racist Republican line.

Great job by Abdul El-Sayed! And the questioner is Tommy Teepell, a former Senate staffer to Josh Hawley, whose father is a big Republican donor. Apparently, also, a Christian Nationalist who wants the government to carry out his extremist version of Christianity.

And he was reluctant to give his name then we find out why. He's not a local "concerned voter". He's an out of state Republican operative and the son of another longtime Republican operative. None of these guys looking for viral moments are real. It's all a scam.

Also, they're so deep in their own bubble-shaped echo chambers its kind of sad watching them flail around when they're nudged off-script and are incapable of formulating and articulating a response on the fly.

It was heartening to me to see a white, rural, working class audience not buying into this bullsh*t. I say this as a Michigander who lived through the 2024 election and has to endure the current GOP advertising blitz.

turns out conservative ideologies and an isolated echo chamber culture (brought to you by Big Tech) are a brewing stew of fascism who could have seen that coming
