It is remarkable and astonishing that the entire apparatus of the Republican party -- the entire organization and every single person who is part of it -- has been converted into a cover-up operation to protect a single pedophile rapist. Is that why these Republicans went into politics? Really?

Yes. It was. They will stop at nothing, and cover up anything, in order to prop up whomever they have to, in order to ensure that the rich will continue to get richer and the white will continue to hold the degree of power they have since America was first colonized.

That is exactly what I keep asking myself: “I know we disagree on stuff, but is this really what you wanted, republicans who dedicated your lives to serving the public interest? Really? Is this really something you genuinely think makes your country better?”

They entered politics to make life easier for the wealthy and as burdensome and horrible as possible for the disadvantaged, this is just a bonus.

There are over 1000FBI agents, who were pulled off of their cases and put to work redacting Trump's name from 3000 pages of Epstein evidence. This took time and effort. Not a single one of them -- not one person who did all it takes to join the FBI -- is a whistleblower? Why are you even at the FBI?

You spend your entire life building a respected career in journalism. It takes lots of hard work and dedication, endless sacrifice. But it's all worth it because you're going to bring the truth to light, no matter what. What are you even doing, not asking follow-ups when he obviously lies?

Why did you choose journalism, or politics, or law, if you're just going to go along with this? Someone has to go first, be brave and risk it all because that is the right thing to do. And if you're in a place to do that, but choose not to, you are a coward and disgrace to your profession.

At some point it stops becoming about telling truth to power and becomes about clinging to whatever you can get your mitts on. Be honest with yourself. The employment world is in a bit of a shit place right now. Starting over, finding a more supportive employer isn't in the cards for anyone.

A lot of people have already gone first, and second, and third. Colbert, 60 Minutes, more major new anchors than you can even count anymore, various other major figures in basically every journalistic organization in the country. Now they're all fired, or removed in other ways.

I was morbidly fascinated by Tim Miller's "Why We Did It," a breakdown of the various reasons his GOP associates went all in for Trump, with a dismantling of each reason. (Miller bailed early, unable to justify himself anymore. HIS reason was "for the thrill of winning," until it wasn't.)

I don’t want to be the one to tag onto something that is legitimately unconnected and absolutely needed saying by referencing fandom stuff… But if there was ever a thing real life Wil said that deserved a “you don’t deserve to wear that uniform” gif — this is it.

I was sorting of thinking about this the other day, when he's dead, the excuses that will come out as to why they didn't speak out over the coverups, or challenge him when he has said something mind-numbingly stupid, or stand up to him when he has bullied are going to be pretty interesting.

I think for the them they look at as a reasonable sacrifice for their greater good, which happens to be power, wealth, and deregulation (also: control over women's bodies, humiliation of minorities, white nationalism, oligarchy, fascism, guns, and environmental destruction)

You’re thinking of a “leaker.” Whistleblowers go through official channels. Those reports often come out much later…or are suppressed by partisan hacks.

Power is a weird thing. The most moral person can turn to the biggest piece of shit. We are seeing that play out on a larger scale than normal.

Up here in Alberta we’re in the fight for our lives as our own MAGA provincial party is pushing separation from Canada. It’s been reported that some people close to the 🍊🤡 have offered half billion $ to facilitate the transition from Canadian province to a US state. Everyday more chaos.

yep. and all the money & power they can grab with their slimey paws. “<gop>… -- has been converted into a cover-up operation to protect a single pedophile rapist. Is that why these Republicans went into politics? Really?”

They went into politics because no one wants to talk politics let alone participate in it. So the door's left open for shills and crooks who want to participate in the money laundering scheme where they bilk us all. It's rare to find someone who really wants to serve the public...

Republicans go into politics for fame and/or fortune and in some case because they were too incompetent for the family business so were “encouraged” to pursue politics. Since they have no pricples or core values it’s really easy for them to hypocritically shift from position to position.

Yes. They're bad people. Some of them were temporarily shaken when he threatened their personal safety, but they remembered they're in this to rule the rest of us like conquered subjects and loot from us and got over it.

The GOP has become a racially motivated terrorist organization that views the electorate as a threat to their power. Everything they do is in furtherance of supporting a white supremacist agenda.

The brainwashing worked. Anything is ok as long as it fucks the Libs. Somehow common human decency has been deemed weak. The truly sad part is that the majority of them probably still think it is all for the greater good and that they, are in fact, the good guys in all of this.
