This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course. – George

Aside from the very obvious & contemptible projection (as already pointed out), it's worth taking a second to consider how Musk simply can't fathom people genuinely caring about something & simply assuming anyone who says they do are being aid to do it. Another reminder of his own lack of empathy.

Hey everyone, gather around! Elon Musk, the trillionaire defense contractor currently spending >$400m on political campaigns to prop up the party of a deeply unpopular president who launched the Iran War has some thoughts about Ukraine, elites, and money in politics.

I'm seriously worried that people like @aptshadow.bsky.social are going to stop writing fantastic sci-fi for us to read in case these idiots keep trying to make it a reality without understanding anything they are actually trying to make us think about.

But the alternative to simplistic ideas driven by nostalgia is to find some realistic vision for the future which involves winners and losers, and apparently that isn't possible in a social media age demanding instant gratification and everyone having their share of the spoils.

Just a reminder that if you are a member of the National Trust, you have until October 30th to vote in the AGM. Its easy, just go for the Quick Vote and you will prevent Restore Trust getting in. A visual reminder of why its essential to vote to save it from a takeover from the right.

Tangential point, but this highlights another reason why people might not want data centres anywhere near them. In a tech enabled war they are going to be prime targets.

I will not only be relieved but truly *ecstatic* to be wrong, if more and better studies soon start showing that AI actually improves learning and cognitive motivation. But so far they all show the opposite, and that is consistent with the evidence that I and other educators are seeing on the ground

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

All three Yandex AI supercomputers are reportedly offline: Galushkin in Vladimir, Chervonenkis and Lyapunov in Sasovo, whose data center shut down after the Oct 8 strike. Yandex Cloud outages also threaten thousands of Russian firms relying on it for websites, databases and payments 👏

We have better accountability for when someone is responsible for a dog that bites people than we do for when a corporation is responsible for an AI that commits crimes.

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

It really is remarkable just how many of the world issues could be significantly reduced by essentially limitless renewable energy and therefor all the more infuriating that the assholes in charge have decided to spend the money on evil fucking clippy instead

Suella Braverman can fuck the fuck off. If she wants people to start outright opposing the place of Christianity in our country this is a very good way to go about it. Hoping (not expecting) church leaders will realise forcing their religion on people may backfire & speak out against it.

Prem Sikka@premnsikka.bsky.social

Reform UK's Suella Braverman promises ‘consequences’ if pupils don’t sing Christian hymns. That would be policed. So what happens to atheists, agnostics, non-believers and other religious denominations. Will they be persecuted, imprisoned? Reform UK getting desperate and bizarre.

Important to remember that the debate around social care right now is about *free* care - ending the lottery of life that means some are financially ruined by care costs as they age. It is not about providing *better* care, which would require spending of another order…

quite. Would be better IMO to have a debate about what kind of care system we want, and then about how we finance it, rather than vice versa..
