Congratulations Harry Kane, 2026 Ballon D'Or winner. A long way from when I saw his debut on a Europa League Thursday night at White Hart Lane in 2011. If you'd told me then... 😮

19 years ago, an ambitious dream to bring an iconic book series into the world of video games came to life with the release of The Witcher. It was the start of an unforgettable path, which wouldn't have been possible without our friends at BioWare.

One of the most insightful comments about game development came from a former boss. He said “Making a game is like starting a band. You can’t throw money at a new studio with random AAA veterans and expect it to crank out a hit.” 🧵

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelenskyy says Russia launched 16 ballistic missiles at Kyiv and the Kyiv region in several waves overnight, along with more than 200 drones, including jet powered Shaheds, and that Ukraine again received no early warning from its partners.

RT @ZelenskyyUa: Another Russian ballistic missile attack came in several waves overnight, and once again, there was no early warning from our partners.

Sixty years ago, 116 children and 28 adults died when a spoil tip collapsed onto Aberfan. My grandpa was amongst those who drove out to help, but for too many it was too late. The PM has visited to honour the community and lives taken too soon. They are not forgotten.

The Covid Inquiry’s Module 6 report is devastating. Its central conclusion: adult social care was treated as “something of an afterthought”, while “protecting the NHS” sometimes came at the expense of people receiving and providing care. 1/10

Improvised a little lampshade shader that imitates scattered light from inside. Code and details in the comments! :) #gamedev

Meh. Now getting 'your access has been restricted' on TicketMaster, after which they print my correct IP address, which is a standard UK OpenReach address with correct geolocation. Their only suggestion is to turn off VPNs and/or Apple's IP-hiding schemes 🤦‍♂️

I assume this is yet another internet degradation due to the AI botnet swarms plaguing everyone's sites. The same ones that have me constantly clicking on little checkboxes and antiquated captchas. Or just Ticketmaster being evil and incompetent 🤔

Note: limiting Starlink to 160kph doesn’t affect strikes on refineries. Those are inside Russia where Starlink doesn’t work. So there isn’t even a wrong theory under which it lowers diesel prices. It just stops drone strikes against Russian forces in Ukraine, so Ukraine can’t defend itself.

This iconic view disappears forever next week. So for posterity, have this timelapse trip down Oxford Street from the top deck of the bus I’ll miss it, but also looking forward to pedestrianisation

#ImWidgets hack of the day, I décided to move all the styling in a json file, and allow texture and micro procedural gradient description in it. Here some examples, all are pure #DearImGui with my rendering layer on top, compatible with #ImGui test engine too!

I really hope the USA enjoy their one-cent-cheaper diesel, given the number of Ukrainian civilian lives it's already been built off the back of. Just shameful. The US has now effectively contributed more money to Russian arms than Ukrainian ones over the last year.

If you're a Londoner, you really should consider a Londoncentric subscription. Even if you don't read it (and, you almost certainly do read articles lifted from it in national media), it contributes so much to making London a better place.
