An election worker at the #Nanaimo Golf Club voting location says it’s been quiet all morning. Don’t let the rain or apathy keep you home. Don’t take this Canadian right for granted. Don’t let the boomers decide who’s elected. They’re all voting today. Get out there and vote!!!

Back on Radio NL in Kamloops this evening co-hosting Provincial election coverage with the mighty Paul James. Starts at 8pm. 610am and streamed from the NL website. Going to be an interesting evening in BC!

Last 24 hours three strangers have called out my name on the street, I’ve said “make sure you vote!” and they’ve said “I will!” it’s like being the mayor of a small town where people randomly burst into song

I had the honour of accepting a Climate & Energy Action Award on behalf the District of Saanich. Saanich received an Action Award for infrastructure improvements. The Tillicum Green project helped make the neighbourhood more resilient to flood & extreme heat with social & environmental benefits.

I feel very lucky to be in the hall for this session. The Union of BC Municipalities @ubcm offers some of the most practical, calm, nuanced information on our province's biggest challenges and opportunities. #ubcm26

Great to spend some quality time with dear friends and fellow #ubcm Past Presidents Maja Tait and Brian Frenkel before a busy week at the #ubcm26 convention.

the World Cup is one of those things that reminds us we’re one humanity. Sucks that a corrupt few influence so much division in us. Day to day life around the world is still that we eat, drink, laugh, cheer for a goal. Remembering our shared humanity is so important now. If we forget, we’re doomed.

A Japanese fan broke down crying after his country's elimination, but a group of Brazilians fans went to console him and Mexican fans made him soar. You gotta love the World Cup! ❤️🌎⚽️ Video: RÉCORD

HOLY CRAP: 455 tourists are now CONFIRMED to be visiting for Tod's #Nanaimo Infusion. That number does NOT include locals, or people who are coming but haven't RSVPed. 52% are healthcare workers mostly from the U.S. visiting to see if it's a place they could see themselves working. And. Counting.

350 visitors CONFIRMED for Tod's #Nanaimo Infusion. (That does NOT include locals.) That's just those who filled out the RSVP form, which has only been up for 24 hours! ✅ THE BIG NEWS: 45% of them either work in healthcare or their spouses do. Want to come? Check out 2026.nanaimoinfusion.ca

Wow! Didn't see this coming. Boy oh boy. Pierre Poilievre crosses the floor to join the Federal Liberal Caucus. Says it was a fools game to try to go against Mark Carney. #cdnpoli

Tumbler Ridge is a small planned resource community, a winding 90 minute drive from the nearest city of at least 10,000 people. A massive number of people are going to descend there tomorrow. May those that arrive have respect and grace for the unimaginable grief.

Every two weeks I write a Director’s Report on local government//regional district news relevant to the Discovery Islands. Here’s a link to the report in inboxes today: mailchi.mp/6e7c80634fb7... With photos from recent explorations on Quadra Island.

Next week I'm attending the Conservative Leadership Convention in Calgary as an observer. Not because I'm opposition—but because I genuinely want to understand, listen, and build bridges with other engaged Canadians. We need more curiosity and less polarization. 🇨🇦 #cdnpoli

And i’ve said before, guilt is useless and can easily curdle into resentment. A sense of moral obligation and solidarity on the other hand, can be productive.

Committees like these enable volunteers to contribute their time towards building and maintaining a city. Their time is worth millions of dollars and their advice saves millions more. Cutting these might save $160,000 in expense, but it will cost 10 times that amount to pay staff for half the work.

I think the Fawcetts have provided so much to this community over an extended timeframe that I think it probably actually is debatable whether their development has any bearing on their donation to the Arts Centre or whether they are doing this because they want to leave a legacy.
