And as an aside - you should not doubt how fucking uncool D&D was in 1998 as a game, and how poisoned that particular well had been for a while. Baldur's Gate turned that around, and if you do want a road from D&D then to D&D now, it does strike me that Bioware's needs more credit than they get.

Sakset fra Nobuo Uematsu: On the Record:

Today we have something special: a newly translated interview from July 1996 between Shigeru Miyamoto and Kenji Eno! Conducted just weeks after the launch of Mario 64, Eno takes Miyamoto to task (in a friendly way) with several fascinating critiques of its design. shmuplations.com/miyamotoxeno/

Games criticism owes so much to Garrett Martin. Quietly one of the most influential people in the space, a guy who was happy to publish anyone that had something interesting to say. A shame AV Club is shuttering its games coverage. End of an era, long live Paste Games

lets all take a moment to appreciate just how stacked 1998 was and also laugh at the backloggd userbase for somehow putting the sonic r pc port above games like soul calibur and baldur's gate in popularity

On February 10th, 1988, Enix released Dragon Quest III. Chaos ensued. While this particular moment in time has been subject to pervasive rumors and myths, I translate three articles from the archives of the Asahi Shimbun which cut to the heart of the matter. Thread and links below.

I want a game that's basically Red Dead Redemption from the perspective of the horse. A horse simulator where by sheer coincidence you're owned by a series of gruff bearded men on ill-defined quests for vengeance, a different one each chapter. Gruff bearded men come and go, but Horse is eternal.

We're coming up on 40 years of The Legend of Zelda series, so we have to ask: What are your Top 3 favorite Zelda games?
