i am not some wild radical, i am the most boring mainstream parent you could possibly meet that spends most of my life driving my kids to hockey practise - we've fucked up our streets so bad and the narrative so bad that wanting BASIC SAFETY FOR CHILDREN is considered fucking radical.

every campaign, every look both ways, every be seen, every teach our kids, every be alert, every fucking thing is performative when we refuse to do what we all know works and especially when we refuse to protect what is working.

Listen am I saying we're heroes just because we put a mirror up on a dangerous corner in our neighborhood? Yes I am! And that means you can be one too. Time to get up and create the world we want to live in.

Everyone come to this. Beermiscuous is one of the best joints in this town and they got done dirty.

Our front door got busted. We need to fix it. We're celebrating. Our New Door Party will be Saturday, October 17, at 7pm. Austin will bring the festivities, you just need to bring yourself. See you on the 17th!

THE SECRET IS THAT THE PEOPLE ABSOLUTELY FUCKING CRAVE CAR-FREE SPACES TO SPEND EVEN AN HOUR OF THEIR OTHERWISE COMPLETELY CAR-DOMINATED LIVES

These fests have gotten so popular which is kinda bizarre to me because it’s just the same artists at everyone and then selling the same food that you would eat any other day but 70% more expensive lol

Please consider giving to our independent people-powered campaign! We reject corporate PAC money and the pay-to-play politics of the past. That means your individual contribution is that much more important! Any donation helps!

Just finished a Roscoe Village canvas for @patgilsenan.bsky.social and there's a lot of enthusiasm for change in the 32nd ward! More and more affordable housing, safer streets for all, and participatory budgeting. Couldn't be more excited!

So, what to do? USE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN. THINK: “Would I give this information to someone who wants to make money off my ideas without giving me credit?” Don’t outsource your brilliance to these people. They are NOT good actors. It’s not rocket science; have a drop of self-preservation instinct!

I'm a white Arab American. Most ppl would never know that's my background by looking at me. The day after 9/11, family friends, who did not know, where at the house and openly talking about how all Arabs and Muslims in the US should be rounded up into camps. I was 12 years old. We were never united.

@bikelaneuprising.bsky.social Is there going to be a Q&A session with Alexi Giannoulias at the 9 year party? I'd love to know why a guy who doesn't even mention bike lanes on his website, wants to add 1000 more cops(some of the biggest BLU offenders and harassers of ppl on bikes),

Bike Lane Uprising@bikelaneuprising.bsky.social

[ 2 weeks away ] Our 9th anniversary party is just 2 weeks away - here's who we have speaking so far: 1: David Powe, CDOT Assistant Commissioner 2: Alexi Giannoulias, IL Secretary of State & Candidate for Chicago Mayor 3: TBA Reg prices go up next thur www.bikelaneuprising.com/events/bike-...

and whose apparent top priority on street safety is making it easier for drivers to obstruct their vision. So far it seems like, if you care about safety, this guy shouldn't get anywhere near the mayor's office. Why is he a main speaker at the party?

If you have a Gmail account, you need to read this. Google's AI now scans your emails and attachments, bank statements, tax files, medical letters, all of it. It turned on by default, and there's a class-action lawsuit over how. Here are 5 moves to shut it off, the switch is hidden in two places:

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

Dine Out on Broadway is coming to Lakeview this weekend! We used to have it every other weekend, but now it’s only once a month. When I’m alderman, I’ll make it more frequent and expand open streets to other places in the ward.

the longer i cycle, the more i engage in the kinds of behaviour that piss motorists off, because i've found the most dangerous position i can be in as a cyclist is trying to follow rules not made with my safety in mind

“The only reasonable solution to this is to remove some of the car lanes from the street, and replace them with safe, protected travel lanes for people to ride bikes and e-scooters, so we can begin to liberate ourselves from the death grip of cars and traffic”

Vision Zero Vancouver@visionzerovancouver.ca

"The impact of being hit by an e-scooter could certainly result in life-altering injuries or death, especially for seniors. But the solution is not to ban e-scooters, or to criminalize youth for being youth." Great letter with a lot of fantastic insights! www.nsnews.com/opinion/opin...

You do not engage in these kinds of actions to change the world overnight. You do it to change one person's world, over and over, until eventually, the tide is too much and the world must change.

Dooring has taken so many lives now that it should trigger a full scale design revision that no longer makes door zone bike lanes legal to build. We know how to build safe infrastructure. Our elected leaders make a conscious choice not to do so. It's that simple.

Consistent with a theme I've noticed in progressive policymaking, where advocates/policymakers assume that the only acceptable policy intervention is one that carries no possible tradeoffs, and that there are surely no tradeoffs associated with leaving a horrendous status quo in place.

The families experienced better economic and education outcomes, but felt isolated because they were far from places like church and familiar stores. Instead of considering how that could be due to how our suburbs are basically designed to isolate, the conclusion was “desegregation is harmful”

To be blunt, I think the fundamental disconnect here is that when leftists and liberals (to include conservative liberals) say 'western civilization,' they are referring to a complex cultural and intellectual tradition with fuzzy boundaries. When MAGA says it, they are misspelling 'the white race.'

Rewatch Who Framed Roger Rabbit. That’s it. That’s the post. …. Ok it’s not quite the whole post. The movie doesn’t have to be based on a provable conspiracy, since those are really hard to prove, & it’s a movie with cartoons! But there’s plenty of evidence of dark money attacking public transit.

Urban Truth Collective@urbantruth.bsky.social

“Koch brother groups have tried to derail public transit plans in other cities around the country, from Little Rock, Arkansas and central Utah, to Nashville and Michigan. They have frequently called such projects ‘wasteful spending’. The Koch organization is also heavily invested in fossil fuels.”
