Now in the Colibri spaces alpha: multi-activity and game activities! We've been developing a lexicon for game activity sharing in the ATProto Games WG and it's slowly getting ready. You can use sync.atplay.games to link your Steam and Discord, then head to spaces.colibri.social/app to try it out!

I've been on an AT Protocol podcast binge and I know tons of people hate it here and hate the devs and think the focus should be building something that's just like Twitter but tuned to the hater's particular tastes, but, man, what's getting built has me optimistic about the future of the internet.

I gotta say, the first bracket of matches were my favorite to watch. Spain put up one helluva fight against Saudi Arabia! #OWWC

People can be both marginalized and wrong. People can be without power, and also be assholes. People can be oppressed, and be cruel. People can be discriminated against, and they can be incorrect sometimes. This is because people are human beings first, not categories. And humans are messy.

it’s pretty wild that we as a society of have just completely normalized (and at times encouraged) people to act insanely rude and inappropriate to complete strangers online, in ways they wouldn’t in real life, to the point that a lot of pro-social behavior has is even stigmatized on social media

I think, maybe we should WANT Bluesky to be different from Twitter. I say this as someone who has done my fair share of dunking: I never lead a harassment campaign against anyone - but I have been on the receiving end of em. Ratio culture is super toxic. Why do we want to preserve it??

Apparently you can EDIT the post interaction settings for an existing post?? This is neat. I hope more people use it!

I was reading an author recently talking about how we don't appreciate the way that email isn't siloed. That is, you don't have to be in gmail to talk to someone else in gmail. The norm is so powerful, it'd be unthinkable to change it. All email is interoperable. Social media could've been this way.

The mastodon server I joined in 2022 is shutting down permanently. > Please note that Mastodon can move your followers, but it can’t transfer your old posts or uploaded media to your new account. If you want to keep a copy, download an archive. Yeah totally similar to atproto 🙄

I kid y'all not, I had this idea literally the other night and asked Claude about the feasibility of such a project 😭

SwapPulse@swappulse.org

Honestly? Trading online used to stress me out. Not anymore. It's built on the AT Protocol, so your posts show up on Bluesky too. Same account, bigger reach. See what we're building: https://swappulse.org #PokemonTCG #ShinyHunting #PokemonCollection

@heron.tunji.dev actually displays a writing tab + a button to view a user's longform content (example using @pckt.blog). This allows you to see both documents AND a list of publications. This is something @bsky.app needs to adopt, so we can truly allow competition against Substack's network effect.

turns out the way to keep all the atproto nerds (complimentary) occupied is to just give us all a little messageboard to play around with, doesn't take much

Foregrounding this question is an obviously a good thing—and something probably still largely absent from everyday consumer consciousness. Makes me optimistic that one byproduct of ATProto’s open architecture adoption might be a rise in digital literacy amongst the public at large. A dude can hope 🙏

Had a fun time at the Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival last weekend. Seeing an Irish wolfhound in person was unreal! It was also nice volunteering for something non-political. Although... Quite a few people were asking about their chances for getting Irish citizenship bc they wanna leave the US 😭 Mood.

HURRAY! A well-written, delightfully illustrated, NON-TECHIE explainer of the Atmosphere. This is *exactly* the kind of explainer that will be easy for me to share with my non-tech friends and work colleagues. THANK YOU, @leaflet.pub!

Bluesky and Leaflet are in the Atmosphere!!! ...wtf does does that mean? Here's a little explainer, written for everyone. No tech experience or prior knowledge required. All you need is 4 minutes or less :D

This is why @atproto.science is so relevant rn This compilation of essays indicates that scientists are most frustrated by insufficient “community tools and resources... Essential infrastructure for sharing, maintaining and building on existing work and data is also badly underdeveloped." >

Said something interesting to a friend today when they asked about different open social web protocols. It might be a little bit controversial, but: I think that ActivityPub is decentralized in principle, whereas AT Protocol is decentralized in practice. 🧵

Would love for @bsky.app to adopt a feature like this, where people can optionally add a section to their profiles that allows users to see their publications and subscriptions. Also the ability to add a newsletter subscription button in bio - similar to how @standard.site blogs show up in posts.

Standard Reader@standard-reader.app

We just added a feature that makes it easier than ever to find your friends and their blogs! Head over to Discover, and you'll see a new bit of UI where you can browse all of the publications from the people you follow on Bluesky.

I get the sense that ATProto is going to surpass Activitypub but I'm not entirely sure why. Can anyone articulate why ATProto is preferential to Activitypub?

I'd love to see interoperability. As someone who is really big into the concept of open protocols / the social web but doesn't fully understand the techy aspect of it, I don't know why one might subjectively be seen as better than the other aside from a few talking points here and there.

I feel as though the AT Protocol projects have more promise, but maybe I'm just biased because their websites weren't made by backend people? So really I'm just basing my opinion off vibes.

Folks, you know what I realized just today? If someone subscribes to my standard.site publications, it can actually outlast my domain. 😲 You can change your handle without losing your followers. You can change your whole blog's domain, without losing your subscribers. 💫

Last night I was at a bookstore in the village and there was a woman who was purchasing "Ulysses." While scanning the shelves, I spotted "Dubliners." "Here's another one by James Joyce," I said, handing it to her. She might unknowingly embark into the world of Joyce studies after this! 😅
