Everyone who is saying "Dems in red states have to throw trans people under the bus to win" -- no. They don't. When they do that, we just start with no winning options on the table. It gives in to the fascist premise that we get to decide some groups don't get rights. THIS is what I want to see.

BeshearStan@beshearstan.bsky.social

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"

This is horrifying.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

This is such important work, and the thing to keep in mind is that when AI people tell you that games will be personalized for you, this is the kind of thing they are more likely to mean.

Morgan Johnson@poormojo.bsky.social

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

This is my school, by the way! So proud of our students, teachers, and admin! @neatoday.bsky.social

Today is International Day of Sign Languages and we just had to reshare this heartwarming story of a New Hampshire school that learned sign language to communicate with their first-grade peer! www.cbsnews.com/news/new-ham...

The AI Literacy we get: "Here's a piece of software founded on theft, labor exploitation, and environmental devastation. It consistently produces bias and falsehoods, so be sure to use it ethically and responsibly!" The AI Literacy we need:

This is the letter kids got at the end of Dolly’s Imagination Library. I defy you to read this and not cry.

I’m sure I’ll have updates, but for now it’s safe to say that somehow the most intensely physical experience of my life has become the most nerdy (and exciting) intellectual pursuit I could have ever imagined. With my kid! So hooray! (6/7)

Happy to connect with folks who can shed some light on the journey on which I’ve just embarked. Anyone know anything about #Uechi-ryu? Or #Pangai-noon? (7/7)

The style is called Uechi Ryu, and it’s a librarian’s *dream.* It was founded by an Okinowan who traveled to China to learn kung fu. The style he learned was called Pangai-noon. He returned home after 13 yrs of study, and (very long story short) opened a #dojo. Meanwhile… (4/7) #uechi-ryu #librarian

Pangai noon *disappeared,* as in From-The-Face-Of-The-Earth. So Uechi Ryu (named for its founder, Kanbun Uechi) became a “new” form of Okinowan karate. But it isn’t! It’s kung fu! And it’s tied up with Buddhism and Chinese medicine! (5/7)

It’s run by a #sensei who happens to be female. This seemed good to me, because all the senseis I’ve known in the past (brothers and friends took lessons in various styles) have all been male, and kind of like drill-sergeants. (2/7)

Anyway, I signed him up, and Sensei +/- said (without being salesy *at all*), “Are you going to sit and watch him for an hour twice a week?” The “sit” kind of got to me. And then suddenly I found myself taking lessons as well. (3/7)

People say this every week and it makes me so happy. It's also proof that you don't need gen AI to make posters or whatever. No matter how "bad" it is, homemade has an energy, magnetism, and sincerity that gen AI can NEVER match.

I don't have any cat art but just wanna say I love the "art show" graphic & it makes me laugh when I see it every week. 🩷

For those of you following along in Bartz v. Anthropic, I gave some guidance as to when we might see money, and said in that guidance that it all depended on whether there was an appeal. Semi-bad news: there is an appeal. Want to know who is appealing? Do you, do you?

Timing thread. I was going to do this "later tonight" and apparently "later tonight" means "immediately, right now" because my brain also wants to know the answer.

A.I. and corporate lingo are trapping language yn nonsense realmes of vague, airy, plastic nothingnesse: glitz and hyperbole wythout meaning. Good language must have fur and clawes, make the floorboardes creake, leave honest heartbreake footprintes. Wordes are rayne and fyre and stone. Cherish them.

Bluesky should go back to invites, continue aggressive bot bans, create a Craigslist-style marketplace (since you’re more likely to buy/get services from a educated or good person on here than any other social network), and market this place like a walled garden protected from enshittification.

And that, is our opening salvo Because we know exactly how to fix this The science is in The problem is the politicians taking bribes from the corporations to keep themselves in power and us, out of the loop Its a club And you aint in it And that's what needs to change the most
