Scalded my ankle at work, so I couldn't cycle home. @etainsurance.bsky.social arranged a taxi for me and my bicycle to get home. They called me en route to make sure that I'd been picked up, then called later to make sure that I was safely home. They came through for me, and not for the first time.

Alt text included. My apologies for missing it on the original post but I was a mess reading it.

Bought The Rose Field by Phillip Pullman. Unfortunately, what with all the illustrations, this #ebook is more than my venerable BeBook can handle! It just reboots when I try to open it. It works on more modern hardware. #TheSecretCommonwealth #eBooks #booksky

Finished The Rose Field. I don't normally talk about books I read, but this one's the exception. The book ended abruptly, leaving most of its story threads completely unfinished. I feel deeply unsatisfied, and this has killed my trust in the author. The illustrations were nice.

This is a positive development, full stop. Anti-racism norms matter, elite cues on anti-racism norms matter, a broad political consensus on anti-racism norms matter so a strong signal from the leader of a party which has been blurring red lines lately is good news.

A) Yes you can. B) But anyway, nobody is saying that you have to. C) It is perfectly possible to own a car and also do most of your journeys NOT by car (and/or want to reduce how many journeys you drive). D) What do the many people who don't have a car do? So fed up with this ridiculous argument.

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago and spoke on a panel about the nature of time for a Geneva Watch Days event. While I was there, on a lark, I entered a competition to most precisely calibrate a Swiss watch. And today I found out that I won! 😃 www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6hUTB...

100 years ago today: A cyclist replies to a motorist's complaint that cyclists don't pay road tax and cycle two or more abreast, holding up drivers. How things have changed.

Very nice to hear a sane voice from Piddington. Serious respect to this woman, who is apparently already being othered by more bigoted villagers.

When I lived in the UK none of my concerns e.g. affordable housing, climate action, increases in welfare spending, scrapping tuition fees, an ethical foreign policy, were ever framed as legitimate concerns. lnstead I was routinely told to fuck off by most political parties for having such concerns.

Cyclists were the primary force behind organized political pressure for better, paved roads before the arrival of cars and drivers. Drivers now think they own the road and oppose safe infrastructure for all other road users. What if tanks started using roads and were crushing cars and people?

The companies responsible for the 17-tonne nurdle spill that is polluting England’s north east coast seem to have given up, as they stand insurer-funded clean-up teams down, leaving volunteers and council teams to keep going.

Reminder for all watching the Labour party go "well, we have to enforce segregation of trans people, the law's the law" The UK is not the USA. Parliament is sovereign and Labour have a thumping big majority; they could, trivially, amend the equality act to end this. They are choosing not to.
