Why do so many of us feel the stakes are existential? Not because of gas prices.
Ossoff gets it. Some others do, too. But even charismatic political talents like Abdul El-Sayed are being led astray by the advice to hew to talking points & avoid the narrative of accountability. That must change. /3
@brianbeutler.bsky.social:
"Successful elections aren’t only assemblages of talking points that poll well. They’re built on good storytelling; because through storytelling we can make better-than-educated guesses about how politics will change in the near future."

People think I’m a contrarian because I fight with the left and fight with the center, but this is the heart of it: all I really care about is the anti-fascist project. There is an enemy; my ideology is defeating him.
As a former teacher, I never scrubbed in for a gender reassignment surgery, but I did instruct the kids on how to get the window screens off in case of an active shooter…
Oh no 😭
One of the last members of the USS Enterprise has left.
RIP Walter Marvin Koenig (1936-2026)
Star Trek, Babylon 5, Moontrap, The Starlost, The Questor Tapes, Futurama... What a career in sci-fi.
I will miss Pavel Chekov. Again 😞
Trump has publicly been a perverted, pedophilic, INCESTUOUS guy for decades and is very weird how everyone just wants to pretend that these accusations only started after Epstein got got.
It's like everyone decided "If the president was plausibly accused of child sex trafficking, it would be the biggest scandal of all time" and went from there to "It's not the biggest scandal of all time, so I guess he's not plausibly accused of child sex trafficking."
But he is.
House Democrats looked into it and it really feels like they were just tripping over allegations against Trump - including allegations no one had heard before! - everywhere they looked. It's bizarre that this remains such a low-burn scandal. democrats-judiciary.house.gov/media-center...
It's well-documented that the president maintained a years-long friendship with the world's most notorious child sex trafficker.
It might strike you as odd there aren't direct allegations of Trump engaging in child sex trafficking.. except there are. There are SO MANY. They just never get reported!
I am fascinated by the zero-charisma chuds who during the Trump administration find themselves briefly in positions of power and relevance. An inspiration for thumbs everywhere. ballsandstrikes.substack.com/p/donald-tru...
“Ramaswamy’s ad embraces a woman who enabled sexual abuse—and uses the language of ‘parental estrangement’ to mobilize MAGA voters who can’t understand why their children won’t take their calls.
But they know the reason. They just don’t want to accept it.”
www.liberalcurrents.com/editors-note...
Setting aside all the other deeply appalling aspects of this ad, it is being aired by a billionaire who would exploit this obviously troubled elderly homeless woman for his political career.
Donna Arthur — aka Amy Acton’s estranged mother, and the person whose testimony Vivek Ramaswamy devoutly trusts — has been living with her cats, in a car, in a church parking lot, having declined housing assistance.

The average family that heats their home with oil is going to pay $1500 more this winter because of Donald Trump’s insane Iran War.
Some people will go cold. Some may die. This isn’t hyperbole. This is the consequence of having a president who just doesn’t care about you.
Trumpism has succeeded because his side draws up a passionate core and supplements it with gigantic media presence.
There is no alternative to this. Goody-two-shoes "let's participate in democracy together" crap goes nowhere.
You can only defeat fascist power with progressive power.

Given the shift in media ownership over the Trump era, Democrats REALLY need to learn to ignore media handwringing now. Because I have no doubt their every move for accountability will be attacked from every possible angle.
"Bottom line: Democrats are delusional if they continue to believe good policy is sufficient to win elections. Republicans correctly realize good policies and effective governance are not even necessary to win."
@schaller67.bsky.social | @atrupar.com in a zinger Public Notice.
New in PN: Strong & right
"For decades, an article of faith among party apparatchiks was that if Dems simply published detailed policy platforms & then ran on those policies — or clever bywords like “affordability” or “abundance” — voters would swoon.
Wrong. And Dems are finally figuring it out."
oh my god ballot initiatives too. "yes, let's require ordinary voters parse this highly complex legalese likely written to be intentionally dishonest." crazy system bsky.app/profile/benf...
as a dual national that votes in two places I think there's something to this. UK elections are considered big and complicated when you have to vote for 3 things in one ballot. My recent California ballot had a couple dozen roles and another 10 propositions. This is too much.
Right. If your mother says bad things about you, it should automatically disqualify you from holding a job in government.
Apropos of nothing, here's an email to Pete Hegseth from his mom.
Q: Now that you know the backstory about Amy Acton and her stepfather and why she hasn't talked to her mom in so long -- her stepfather was indicted for rape -- do you change your mind about the ad?
TRUMP: No. No. It's a mother speaking badly against Amy Acton. You don't know anything.
I'm old enough to remember when Jared Kushner thought it was a good idea to use the Russian embassy to conduct secure communications during an American presidential transition
Who's in charge of this country because it sure isn't us and it doesn't even appear to be the government anymore
A bunch of paunchy moon-faced degenerate dead-eyed parasites forming a human centipede of investment in each others' vanity conglomerates, not a scintilla of civic virtue among them
So the same month that Elon Musk throttled Starlink to run his own military policy, he's also seeking more control over your flow of information. Musk and the Ellisons will control CNN and CBS for news; HBO, Warner Bros, Paramount & more for entertainment; Twitter (X) and TikTok for social media.
A good hedge, then, would be to say now that these oligarchs are meddling in the election, and will have to answer for it in January, no matter the size of Democrats’ victory. www.offmessage.net/p/donald-tru...
Dems play the expectations game by, e.g., saying private polls are closer than public ones. What they should say (because it's true) is that they're up against aggressive cheating by the richest, most powerful people in the world, and winning in spite of it. 🧵 www.offmessage.net/p/donald-tru...
Unearthed footage of Vivek Ramaswamy mocking Amy Acton for being a survivor of childhood abuse:

NEW in Bolts: In Culver City, California, students are trying to drum up support for a November ballot measure to let 16- and 17-year-olds participate in city council and school board elections.
Jan Crawford is CBS News’s longtime Supreme Court correspondent and she’s especially close with Alito. Just a fun little insight into (1) who is providing you with ostensibly straight news about the Court and (2) how their brains can be just as cooked as the brains of the justices they cover.
New from me: I'm so sick of the Broligarchy, the world they want to force upon the rest of us, and the millions they waste on that goal. On election day, let's tell them all to go to hell. www.altrightdelete.news/p/f-the-brol...
The piece was getting pretty long but I will add here that of course one thing incivility earns you that politeness doesn’t is attention. It’s an important hack to use the current attention economy to your advantage.
At some point, voters will understand that corruption and unregulated corporate greed are deepening an unsustainable wealth gap. We need to rise above the scare tactics are designed to distract and divide us.
Ossoff: "The crisis we must meet is deeper than this presidency. Trump's rise is proof that business as usual has failed, that our politics, sickened by corruption, is failing the American public and compromising our national integrity. And that the hour is late to fix what's broken."
This past week serves as a valuable reminder that, the vague term "collusion" notwithstanding, Trump has spent his whole political career these last 11 years serving Russian interests, obstructing US foreign policy to help Ukraine, and jeopardizing NATO's unified front against Russian aggression...
Given the news that Meta throttled Lula in Brazil and stories like this one below every Dem state legislature should open an investigation into whether the platforms have attempted to influence elections in their states.

California’s billionaires have a combined net worth of $2.4 trillion.
Under Prop 40, their net worth would fall to…just under $2.3 trillion.
What amounts to a rounding error for them would allow millions of their fellow Californians to afford healthcare.
Vote yes on Prop 40.
"Russia has been helping Iran the entire time....And Donald Trump’s response is to beg Putin to accept American money in exchange for a few thousand barrels of diesel....This is the most stunning display of submission and weakness from an American president ever."
The President of the US is now threatening to jail local election officials if they do not break federal law in the middle of an election in which hundreds of thousands of votes have already been returned.
An unprecedented attack on our democracy — one we will call out every. single. time.
