Sometimes you play a game that moves you so much you dust off your blog and get to work. Skate Story by @bysameng.com is one such game. I wrote about public spaces, permission and pain and how all of these things feed skating culture. Thanks for reading! killjoy.bearblog.dev/i-hate-skate...

At this point, there's probably a market for a type of game studio that just sunsets live service games to sustain as much capital as possible. A Game Demolitionists.

Star Wars Galactic Racer embodies the best thing about the series. Not just kicking it with little freaks, but being woefully broke the whole time and persisting in spite of it. The best Star Wars is about class consciousness.

there are about five people left in games media mate. wind it in.

From the soles of my feet to the top of my head, I mean this: Nothing meaningful will ever be made using this tool. It is an affront to taste. The casualness of creation being promised is indicative of a way of thinking that is incapable of understanding why people like things.

NEW: Meta, like Roblox, is going all-in on a mobile app used for AI-driven game development “Maybe you’re...in line for coffee. You have an idea, you open the app, describe the game that you wanna build in your own words, and the system starts building it with you" www.gamefile.news/p/meta-horiz...

Still absolutely seething about the Microsoft firing-line. I was talking to my games students yesterday about the importance of maintaining a critical distance from any larger company they end up working for. Treat them like a landlord that knows you don't have renters' protections.

also and this is not the most important thing here but genuinely how is anyone expected to do creative work under these conditions

SO, I've been digging into this concept lately that games culture-at-large does not have a historical consciousness. It just does not consider games as part of longer, more complex histories. 'Gamers' are only responsive to histories that are isolated within the medium or platform they understand.

so do gamers just not know about toshiro mifune. is that why he hasn’t come up much.

YEah! Yeah! This is the key. Games pres. is so much about custodianship and responsibility. Very nice to see someone with some industry clout put words to it.

SCOOP: A few weeks before the launch of Star Wars Zero Company, most of the developers at its studio were furloughed The studio says they hope to secure funds to restore their pay. Some are skeptical it'll happen I learned about this via a bitter lawsuit: www.gamefile.news/p/star-wars-...

I'm jetlagged so being catty but I guess my point is that I was waiting for some paradigm-shifting *something* outside of graphical fidelity. I just think this is a pretty damning indictment for what comes next for games that there was very little we hadn't seen before.

Had a great time writing this so thanks to all the @historygamesnet.bsky.social folks for giving me the opportunity!

Maybe I'm salty from last night's loss but I finally got some words down on how I'm feeling about the state of the games community. New blog about the Ocarina of Time remake, Trash Culture, Platform Powers and us all needing to 'Grow Up' a bit. killjoy.bearblog.dev/its-time-to-...
