Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Elrond tells the long story of the One Ring, from its forging in the Mountain of Fire, to its betrayal of Isildur at the Gladden Fields. Frodo is startled to learn that Elrond himself marched with Gil-Galad in the Last Alliance against Sauron, more than three thousand years ago.

No one is Assigned Marine at Birth. Marines are made, and they get really mad if you tell them someone who is a Marine isn't a Marine.

The other thing here is heggles is an army guy and (it is my understanding) the marines generally do not like army people telling them what to do (and in particular saying who gets to be a marine)

Something that's not being said. The REASON why Blanche and Bill Essayli are so defiantly violating the Constitution is bc John Roberts said they can't be prosecuted so long as they're following Trump's illegal orders. Blanche's criminality arises DIRECTLY out of Trump v. US.

This is why so many people at my workplace who were hired under the civil service system seemed to be neurodivergent. For an entry level job, something like 50% of the hiring score was your grade on a test... that will filter for the highly competent people who don't interview well.

I feel this in my bones 😖

america’s biggest problem as a superpower, a nation, and a people, is that no one - especially white men - seems to be able to emotionally graduate from high school.

Enjoyed seeing this woman's work. Sustainability isn't just about producer decisions, but also consumer decisions, namely their willingness to repair things when needed. This type of repair is easier on natural fibers, rather than stretch fabrics. Consider that when shoppping. IG loosethreadsrepair

I might... have spent too much time listening to the excellent audiobooks of the Imperial Radch books lately? my internal monologue keeps wanting to address people as "citizen", with a detour into "student" as I drove through campus.

There are so, so many verified diaries of white Union soldiers at the beginning of the war saying "I don't know about this, I condemn the deplorable violence" and then they get down there and see slavery with their own eyes and immediately go "John Brown was right we gotta kill these motherfuckers"

Erik Loomis@erikloomis.bsky.social

And we can certainly condemn his violence. But let’s step back and remember just how horrible slavery was. On December 20, 1858, Brown, who had briefly returned to Kansas, led a party into Missouri to free slaves.

what I hope this thread makes clear is two things: 1. expanding the court has real problems, and these are valid concerns 2. there are no good options left, and this is the best of the bad ones unless we want to accept a conservative supermajority for the rest of our lives

Color match the fabric, make a shirt, and have the logo embroidered on it, or to get the largest possible men's shirt and alter it. Neither feels right. But I've become accustomed to wearing stuff that actually fits me. (Wacky concept, I know.)

(the women's cut polo tops out at a "3X" that has the same bust/chest size as the men's XL, which is really not funny at all.)
