The allegations against Donald Trump for sexual assault seem to have a common denominator: He is physically violent and intentionally inflicts pain on his victims. He likes to slam women and girls up against doors and walls as he roughly manhandles them. Donald Trump is a sick and twisted person.

House Judiciary Democrats have released a 50-page report examining Trump's ties to Jeffrey Epstein, including accounts involving 11 women and a new rape allegation that the White House denies. With just 8 days until the midterms, the report is raising explosive new questions.

The lesson from Brazil is that democracy cannot be taken for granted. Defeating authoritarianism at the ballot box is only part of the struggle. Defending democratic institutions, protecting civil rights and demanding accountability require strong, sustained, principled public participation.
