Heya, posting over here these days. A little late to the show, but whatever. I often used the name _uxp on the other site, but have converged on this username. Thanks for stopping by.

First vote shows the landscape, which scares the shit out of enough people to get them to show out. Good system, I think we should adopt it.

Adam Schwarz@adamjschwarz.bsky.social

So how did Lula come from behind to defeat Bolsonaro? In short, turnout. Bolsonaro's vote share barely moved. But Lula banked millions of votes from those who didn't vote in the first round & won eliminated candidates' votes. A remarkable mobilisation. Second round turnout is usually below first.

We tried "everyone is entitled to an opinion" for three straight decades and all we have to show for it is four thousand cases of measles and a death cult running the government. It's time for people who don't know what they're talking about to shut the fuck up.

Reminded of the time a decade ago I spent 4 months trying to get the company I worked for to reimburse me for a 49.99 programming book to share with a 6 person team as we learned a new technology.

404 Media@404media.co

In June, 404 Media obtained leaked audio from Accenture where execs shared that a big source of AI token ‘chewing’ is people just converting PDFs to presentation slides. Now, they're capping use to $29 a month. Employees are stressed. @josephcox.bsky.social explains: www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-ag...

Browsing through Steam Next Fest's page and rather disappointed in the AI Slop posters. I'm somewhat ambivalent about AI in the code, but it's quite a shame they are putting so little care into showing the actual game style in the poster. First impressions is tanked.

"My car is paid off, why the hell should I continue paying gasoline tax?", yeah that doesn't make sense either. It's a tax on the property and use, not a Mortgage tax. The house still exists and consumes space in society. These people should be the first to go when we have a cultural revolution.

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Like, my property tax isn't really a lump sum. It's maximum is derived by an assessment, but that maximum is then split by percentage to individual services, like Mosquito Abatement. Do mosquitos disappear when a mortgage is paid off? Do the street lights magically stop consuming electricity? Morons

Incredibly ~~sad~~ enlightening to be reminded of the people on this website who are unable to comprehend someone existing outside of the internet. Like, this is where I scream into a void. You are my void. 90% of my day is doing shit everywhere else.

Yesterday in AI image generation. If République were straight ahead, Bastille would be behind you (not to the right). Also, If you’re heading towards République from Bastille, Gare de Lyon would be behind you, not to the right.

I know it's grim but if we're gonna get through this we're all gonna have to take a deep breath and decide to be the grownups again

I’m sorry to have to be the bad guy here but we need to recognize that we live in a compressed air thrusters world now. If you’re not finding ways to teach the critical use of compressed air thrusters in your classroom, you’re setting your students up to fail when you could be setting them up to fly

A+ example of motonormativity. "Rasmussen said the layout forces drivers leaving her angled parking area to not only back out, but watch for pedestrians on the sidewalk, people biking or riding scooters in both directions and traffic on 400 South." If that's too hard, don't drive. Problem solved!

This is quite extraordinary. I don't think I have heard a more coherent, articulate and accurate deconstruction & demolition of Nigel Farage's ReformUK, Tory & Restore policy than this. In under 85 seconds! @rafaelbehr.bsky.social is on here folks and worth a follow.

It's already illegal. Congress banned it near-unanimously in 2022. That law allows the ban to be lifted only if Russia withdraws from Ukraine. He's simply breaking the law that's already on the books.

David S. Bernstein @dbernstein.bsky.social

Republican US Rep Brian Fitzgerald tweets that he will introduce a bill to block purchases of Russian oil. Don Bacon (R-Neb) tweets that he will co-sponsor. Obviously this won’t happen during campaigning recess (and Trump could veto anyway) but interesting push-back on Trump.

It is apples/oranges here, but remember Japan didn't just wake up one day and decide to bomb Pearl Harbor. We were blockading oil shipments to their island country, leading to similar outcomes. Maybe we shouldn't be fucking dicks.

My neighbor told me Iran keeps sinking Indian oil tankers so I asked how many Indian oil tankers he has and he said he just goes to the shelter and gets another Indian oil tanker afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding Indian tankers to the Straight of Hormuz and then his daughter

what the Trump Admin means by "the Strait is Open" is that we're using Filipinos and Indians as human shields, sailing ships dark through drone infested waters, and 1 in 20 get hit and they die. the plan is literally see if we can run out of FIlipino sailors www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
