With the clear evidence of Meta interfering with Brazil, I want everyone to understand that these algorithms are not simply the product of some neutral 'marketplace of ideas' but an active choice in the part of tech capitalists (and their executives.)

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

Victory for Lula, who has already reduced Amazon deforestation by 70% since 2022, means there is now a chance of ending deforestation of the rainforest entirely I’m weeping with joy for Brazil, for the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon, and for life on Earth 🇧🇷🌳🌎 www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Far right protesters can walk into libraries to threaten people with a police escort and block roads asking brown skinned people for ID while the Gardai look on. The same Gardai will happily put a dozen leftie students in A+E for a week during an eviction protest. I hope this helps your analysis

It makes me deeply uncomfortable that the Minister for Justice has used his Twitter account to create an online pile on of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre. It also appears to me a dangerous precedent that this minister, and his dept. have instructed the DRCC to remove content that he disapproved of.

Sally Rooney and Jack Chambers are the same age, give or take a few months. Two children of the Tiger who became adults the moment it all came crashing down. Today, History has invited these two voices of a generation to mark its pages. Which of them will rise to the moment?

I feel like this is a great example of how adding tech features you don't need actually can create new problems that never existed and you never had to worry about for no reason.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

Another word for "migrants" is "people".

At least 109 migrants have died, including 15 children, and some 116 went missing when a boat sank off the shores of Djibouti in the early hours of Friday morning, a UN agency has said

This is extra offensive for 2 reasons: 1) Students at my campus are organizing like crazy to stand up to ICE. It is inspiring. 2) The last time they protested a war the NYPD stormed the campus, beat a bunch of them up, and then the city installed perimeter fencing that has been up for 2 years…

just to emphasize what's happening here: BMW (a company that used slave labor under the Nazis) refused to provide an official vehicle to the ultra right-wing AfD party, which is now asking Elon Musk to provide a Tesla instead Tesla literally becoming the Nazi car brand

The party is now turning to the man who has been the go-to person for those suffering from spontaneous contractions of the right arm, and who has already provided them with strong support in recent years.

The climate crisis has reached the stage where only radically left-wing solutions have any hope of working. We've been trying to coax polluters to change their ways under capitalism for decades and it hasn't worked. Environmental politics ARE left-wing politics.

If you think Trump’s “musings” and “jokes” are not worth headlines, no matter how shocking or offensive they may be, then you haven’t been paying attention. Yet again, for those at the back - RTE should be entirely funded from the public purse and removed from the advertising market, with a primary focus on quality journalism, culture, the Irish language and providing a platform to Irish writers and artists, and not two-bit entertainment "concepts".

The Journal@thejournal.ie

RTÉ was promised €260 million in funding next year, but the government is now giving it €20 million less. Ministers say the broadcaster hasn't reformed quickly enough, while RTÉ warns the decision could jeopardise its future plans. So how did the row come about? jrnl.ie/7186342

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

Dr Dean Burnett@drdeanburnett.bsky.social

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️
