New bonus episode! Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 had 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 mission. You know the one. I'm obviously talking about the one where you help a British dude nuke and destroy the ISS by accident. We talked to space policy knower @nik-proxima.bsky.social to see how exactly illegal nuking the ISS would be.

If I went to Switzerland and won a Swiss watch precision contest, I would literally never talk about anything else

I went to Geneva a few weeks ago and spoke on a panel about the nature of time for a Geneva Watch Days event. While I was there, on a lark, I entered a competition to most precisely calibrate a Swiss watch. And today I found out that I won! 😃 www.instagram.com/reel/Dd6hUTB...

Saturn II (INT-18) was a proposed derivative of Saturn V, eliminating the S-IC. A modified S-II would become the new stage 1, augmented by Titan SRBs. The study considered various configurations, with 5 or 7 J-2s, stretching the S-II, and 2 or 4 SRBs with 4, 5, or 7 segments

2. Selaco I am once again telling you to play Selaco, it is one of the best out of all the oldschool FPS games you could possibly play, it's just phenomenal. The developers have put so much effort into making the game world so reactive to the moment to moment firefights, it's like a John Woo movie.

1. HROT Yeah, I absolutely adore this game. It starts off very Quake, with a distinctly brutalist Soviet architecture vibe going on, but gets spookier than you'd expect. There's some moments in this game that scared me more than many full fledged horror games. I hope to do a video about this soon.

In Mario Kart Wii, asphalt is slightly shiny, reflecting a band of light ahead of the player. This is implemented cleverly by leveraging something that the Wii is already doing, allowing it to not need to use any sort of additional lighting or post-processing.

People should watch Animarchy’s breakdown of the Clancyverse. I came into it, having read the first couple Ryan books and seeing this interview, remembering he had a healthy respect for Muslims. Turns out they’re one of the few groups he had nice things to say about.

Map of Europe c. 1910 in the Washington Burns Timeline. There is no WWI; instead, there was the Great European War from 1899-1904 (fought on the continent, with Britain preoccupied with simultaneous risings in Ireland, India, and Japan). #alternatehistory #map

Just sent in my LANYARD part 2 article along with a couple of dozen photos. I was looking for a good opener photo for the article. Could not find something great, but then stumbled across these images that I scanned from a Douglas Thor promotional booklet from the mid-1960s. I'm using one of these.

A couple more images of the KH-6 LANYARD camera system. One image shows both the film supply and takeup reels at the front of the camera. That takeup reel would have been mounted inside a reentry vehicle. Other photo shows the image reflecting mirror that looked down at Earth, and the camera lens.

Today is the NINTH ANNIVERSARY of CTC. This was a big year - from Food That Built America on the History Channel to Good Morning America to some huge McDonald's buying trips. I'm motivated to make the final year of my first decade the best one yet, so stay tuned!
