Whether it's Elon Musk cutting off the Starlink access that protects Ukrainians from Russian missiles or Ukraine cutting off Russian bot servers that give Elon his X likes and retweets, both sides have escalated a deadly feud.

Feels like a metaphor for Elon Musk

In July, an incensed Elon Musk vowed that Grok Imagine would produce a "full-length" and "historically accurate" adaptation of Homer's Odyssey to put Christopher Nolan's woke version to shame. Three months later, we got seven minutes of slop that Grok itself admits is not historically accurate.

Matthew Yglesias continues to say that talking about ICE and excessive force in immigration enforcement helps Republicans. He is obviously wrong about this and refuses to acknowledge the data. Way past time for everyone to update their priors on this.

I have had a lot of fun in Bioware games over the years and rank a couple of them in my "All Timers". I love the worlds they built and It's incredibly sad to see this happen to the team.

See.. all these are absolutely legitimate reasons for a Congressional investigation.

Mark Chadbourn@chadbourn.bsky.social

Democrats are preparing to investigate Musk if they win control of the House in November, Politico reports. Potential probes would focus on his DOGE leadership, federal job cuts, alleged data breaches, government contracts and Starlink’s role in Ukraine.

Alright all of this is wild but “aptitude test or whatever the hell they call it” is just so funny to me, like step one of aptitude might be knowing what the test is called and what it’s for?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "I'm the only one that took the test -- the aptitude test or whatever. Every time I do a physical, I do a mental test. And I aced it. Where's my doctor? I travel w/ more doctors than any human being. If people get sick in the audience, they leave them alone. They call them collateral damage."

the year is 2030 and i no longer consume anything that isn't personalized to me. every game, every book, every movie extends to the limits of my own imagination and no further. i haven't been surprised in five years. i cry softly, in bewilderment, if i see a word i don't know

This is a classic Voughtism: we have not eliminated the program - it still exists. It is just not distributing any resources.

In response to our questions, an NSF spokesperson said that SBE has not been shut down. But with zero SBE-specific funding opportunities, no review panels, and dwindling numbers of staff, it's hard to see the directorate continuing for much longer.

I have been thinking about this graph all day. It definitively proves that the Atari 2600 is better than a TI-85 calculator, which is better than the Nintendo 64, which is better than the Magic 8 Ball, which is better than all LLMs. My new graph will have to be logarithmic scale.

Ward Q. Normal (he/him)@wardqnormal.bsky.social

What this chart is telling me is that none of the current LLMs are as powerful as the Magic 8 Ball. It's just science.

Tangentially, this is another example of how misogyny (like all bigotry) makes people's brains smooth. Calling this a "false binary" gives it too much credence, there's no substance here beyond the misogyny. If you think the AI pessimists are right, there are many other paths available, such as:

"Does the rationalist movement have a misogyny problem?" is a question with a pretty clear answer. Just look at what Yud's willing to say out loud.
