The cuts being made at the BBC are unforgivable. They are putting it into a death spiral. The weaker it gets, the less people will want to support it. And yes, this is an issue for the Government, which likes to pretend it's not their problem. It is.

Quite. Lib Dems never got this sort of coverage for the large periods when they were in that very position. This is an organisation *explicitly set up and funded* so that it never has to chase sensationalism, chasing sensationalism, in order to justify how it is set up and funded. Utterly bonkers.

What is the BBC's justification for maintaining this level of coverage of Reform now it has slipped into third place?

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

Reform plan to bring back imperial measurements to help boost US trade, not realising that US imperial measurements are different from UK ones. So dense a black hole is empty space by comparison.

Roddenberry's positive vision of a multiracial 'future earth/civilization', born amid the USA's 60s racial strife, is at least as important a legacy as the 'Yaay Space!' schtick that all the Techbro dimwits who claim to revere TOS cite. Faithfully maintained by TNG, NB, w more ex-foes now as allies.

Another rigorous debunking by @monkemma.bsky.social (Emma Monk). As always, balanced, thoughtful, and avoiding the sensationalism that the Mail on Sunday brings to the table. Pour yourself a coffee and prepare to be - ummm - not brainwashed ?

Emma Monk@monkemma.bsky.social

🧵 Wow - this article is bordering on unhinged! Apparently the BBC is akin to a “North Korean re-education camp” for teaching children about net-zero and covering both the pros AND cons of immigration Join me for a masterclass in cherry-picking and context stripping to brainwash your own readers👍🏻

This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.

Just catching up with this story. Turning Point UK came to my neighbourhood to “protect our kids” from drag queen storytellers at the Honor Oak pub. I don’t think people appreciate how much the English far right is tied up with Ulster Loyalism, and how dangerous this is in a time of polarisation.

"They can start cutting people's faces up. They can stab someone. They can shoot someone." EXCLUSIVE: Our hidden cameras capture the leader of Turning Point UK organising a fake rally for a foreign government and helping arrange a murder-for-hire with loyalist paramilitaries.

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

When I started my Sabbatical in DC in the late 90s, the boss there & his wife took me out to the local Cheesecake Factory. Being Americans they had salads with the dressing on the side (i.e. not actually on the salad). Remember thinking this was a bit... odd.

Sam Freedman@samfr.bsky.social

I first went to a Cheesecake Factory in 2000 and came up with a plan to franchise it in the UK. But then I realised British people would be discombulated by the portion sizes. I ordered this as a starter and its just four normal sized burgers. www.thecheesecakefactory.com/menu/appetiz...

I’m inclined to think that much in the same way that EU elections in the UK were always more about UK domestic politics, Brexit was more about hating the sort of people in the UK who were pro-EU than actual EU citizens. That said, there was an amount of xenophobia directed at EU citizens. 1/2
