“The internet is a store but it used to be a library” hits me like a slug to the chest

Anyone who, in 2026, is already saying “I don’t want to vote for Newsom but I will” is part of the problem. This man is a fucking monster and has betrayed everyone imaginable. He is unacceptable in every possible way. There is no world in which this piece of shit should be trusted with power.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday sought to rein in a wave of legal claims that have pushed some local governments and school districts in California to the brink of bankruptcy, after earlier laws made it much easier to sue over child sexual abuse.

If you give workers instructions that reveal your ignorance, they might roll their eyes at you and make you feel bad about yourself. Even if they restrain themselves in the moment, they might make fun of you in the break-room later.

Apparently people are sharing this far and wide on social media, which I think is horrible. This could cripple ICE operations. PLEASE do not share this.

The Cleveland Public Library's union voted overwhelmingly, 97%, to authorize a strike, which will happen in August if the administrators continue to stall contract negotiations. As an author whose work is carried by those libraries, I whole-heartedly endorse the library workers.

News organizations should periodically stop and look in the mirror and ask themselves “Have we internalized copspeak to the point that our headlines indistinguishable from police department email subject lines?”

it's true that AI is wrong and looks like shit, but personally the most repellent part of it is that the people who use it of their own accord are doing it because they believe what rich people say and do what rich people tell them to do

@chiosse.bsky.social Thanks for being an ally to libraries and pledging to fight for 0.5% of the budget for libraries. We hope that you will keep your commitment in mind and help advocate on the behalf of patrons and library workers alike as budget season comes to a close! 🤞

NYC, the only way for us to come back from this first quarter is to overthrow the NYPD, abolish private ownership of the means of production, establish universal access to health care, food, shelter and education AND improve the subway system, because we're clearly not impressing anyone on the court

She was assaulted by three men who threw her to the ground. She pulled out a gun, and despite being under lethal threat did not fire a round. She's been charged with assault; the assholes who yelled transphobic slurs while beating her are out and free facing no charges. www.them.us/story/trans-...

Everyone I know who has put in the work to be good at something or who simply cares about anything right now:

There is something brutally psychically injurious to being constantly told "just do good work and you'll be successful" while watching people who do the most dogshit work possible do all the succeeding.
