It's cute how the UCP sees vulnerable road users (people!!) as manufactured wedge issue pawns. #yegbike #yeg
The UCP might make Edmonton pay up to $170M to rip out its own bike lanes. I've heard reports that the UCP has been asking for costs of full network removals. City numbers put that at $150-170M This is the same gov't that just spent $130M on a glorified opinion poll.

At least $50 billion for another pipeline. $82 billion in new military spending in 5 years. $300 billion in corporate welfare and mega incentives at an investment summit. But the cupboard is bare for Parks Canada.
2,671 PSAC members at Parks Canada received notice this week that their positions may be cut. These cuts put our environment, natural and cultural heritage, parks, and national historic sites at risk. psacunion.ca/psac-raises-...

just found out that if you bring your own bags and you organize the items on the belt in the most efficient way and are really fast loading up your groceries, you can sometimes get a compliment from the checkout person, in case anyone needed a new possible reward to try to unlock

I think this is a good point. Yeah this has been a month for Canadian politics. Especially if you are a progressive/soc dem it isn’t feeling great. Between the BCCon win, the federal NDP still eating shit, the fed Greens wasting time with a predetermined leadership vote, etc its rough. However…
the infiltration of american style catastrophizing into our political discourse as of late is uncouth

People forget that artisanal cheesecake craftsmen were rendered obsolete by the rise of the Cheesecake Factory in the 16th century. Roving bands of unemployed cheesecake workers would sabotage industrial cheesecake ovens in protest. You can read about it in *The Cheesecake and The Worms.*

This is like a cliche. The fit middle aged guy with a Pinarello on a roof rack who thinks that makes him qualified to speak for people who want to ride to the grocery story or pedal with their kids to school.
"Look, nobody rides more bikes than I do. I rode 10,000 kilometres last year," brags Bradford. He says he's "the only candidate that has a plan to build new cycling infrastructure — we're just going to do it in our ravine network."

And hand-counted, by people working for an under-resourced office set up to fail. Despite how gross and wasteful the whole exercise has been, I'm thankful to those who stepped up to work the polls and count the ballots.
It's official. More votes were counted in Alberta's referendum than in any other vote in Canadian history, including all federal elections.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
