It's a rough time to be an indie dev, so we got to thinking what we could do about it... Announcing MATES' RATES 🍻 We're offering 12 month-long co-dev engagements where we work on whatever you need to succeed! Very permissive terms. Flat rate of US$5,000ea (+ taxes). 🎟️ yarnspinner.dev/mates-rates

This quote is still relevant in these times of billionaires and the Epstein class trying to replace workers with AI agents.

“You can’t eat the orange and throw away the peel - a man is not a piece of fruit” - Willy Loman, “Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller

IMHO, there's notable quality + tone difference between a AI gen project that does a bunch of things and has a "hacker" aesthetic UI, and a project where someone used LLM as a tool to improve their understanding and build something for exploration and learning.

It's like having a water hose of ideas and not being discerning other than "cool I can do all these things" vs being curious and exploring an area for deep understanding + create something unique.

🤔That should be the test for an awful restaurant. If I can kill your restaurant just by parking a taco truck near it? Then your restaurant wasn't going to make it anyway.🤷🏿‍♂️ Restaurants thrive being right next door to other restaurants and bars! This is called an entertainment district. Good actually

Karen Bass reelection update: the mayor has come out as anti-taco stand. In Los Angeles.

Pet peeve: People who block the Metro train door preventing others from exiting and acting surprised people trying to exit don’t just make way for them to get in. Same people who then stand in the isles between seats blocking movement of people trying to sit down.

Things wanted to share after going to South Pas farmers market. 1) sweet corn 🌽 leaves are great to cover up soil in your veggie garden at home, so shuck your own corn! 2) carrot 🥕 greens are edible - cook them! Don’t throw away food! 3) stop being pushy w fresh fruit 🍑samples - I said no thank you!

Lineage Warehouse Rotting food smell returns! Made the mistake of opening a window in the kitchen…and kitchen now smells like rotting food. Stepped outside to confirm. Ewww.

I read Upton Sinclair’s “The Jungle” which led to the creation of the FDA. Never thought I’d live through a time where food safety agencies were actively weakened. They want to privatize everything including food safety.

I wonder if all the odor smells are also driving the coyotes crazy looking for carcass. It's already been an issue with more coyotes around Alhambra, and earlier today saw an alert (citizen app) about a woman being chased by coyotes not that far away.

Lineage Warehouse Fire is out, but now we all get Lineage Warehouse Rotten Food Odor - smelled it in Alhambra. Eww. 🤢🤮 Wearing my N95 mask 😷 outside helped though.

Still listening and learning. In futbol you cannot score against Argentina, apparently. This is not allowed. *scribbles notes*

I did not realise it was possible for Argentina to get carded. I'm sitting my ass down, I'm listening, I'm learning about the rules of futbol.

Tech industry relies a lot on the work of immigrants, not just H1B's but many, many people from all over the world, including Latin America which has many countries that are friendly toward the USA.

Imagine working on ground-breaking technology and then being restricted from using it. You know all that went into it, but you're not allowed to use it.

Being oldest adult child of low income working class immigrant parents is helping them regulate their fears, worry, and anxiety - all for their adult children - that come from raising a family with decades of survivor mode + no safety net in a capitalist society.

In the last year I have successfully replaced heavy slack use (mainly work plus a few others) with heavy discord use (20+ and counting)

#DeepDishSwift was an amazing experience. Due to my very busy work schedule, for so many years I just felt I didn't have time to or could get the time to go to conferences like this. Refreshing + energizing to be around smart & talented folks all learning + relating on all sorts of interests.

It's really nice to connect and relate to people outside of work but who have common interests. Making new friends in the industry outside of work, and discussing all sorts of ideas as we all try to figure out the paradigm shift we're collectively going through. #DeepDishSwift

I am intentional about being present when talking to people and excited when I learn something from them. When someone talks passionately or in-depth about something they care about or know a lot about, it's awesome.

Second day of #DeepDishSwift log: Entering pre-sleep period. Followed by last sleep period before Third and Final Day of DeepDishSwift. 🍕😴

Launch in 2020 becomes 2022, then 2024, and finally 2026, and we knew that these devices would be obsolete by the time we flew. But we already had them in hand. They were already tested. Software already developed for that platform. You make the decision that it’s good enough.

The other challenge for modern devices and software is that everything is looking for an internet connection. While the ISS sits in low Earth Orbit and we were able to setup a viable internet connection, Orion will be on the deep space network, which has bandwidth limitations.
