The BBC love cutting jobs yet continue to employ Kuenssberg and Mason, both of whom are largely responsible for people moving away from their news coverage in droves. Nor are the aforementioned duo ever likely to appeal to the Tiktok generation the BBC claims it is so desperate to impress.

It drives me absolutely mad that Hunt has never been forced to account for this. Interviewers never say "But isn't this your fault?" (It is.)

‘We don’t have the money for that’ says the former Chancellor who cut NI twice when we couldn’t afford it for purely political reasons.

OK, there is something very, very weird going on in the press right now. It certainly appears, from the outside, as if certain people are being very much protected in a way that was not afforded to certain other people! Let's start with the facts around Lola Salem... 🧵1/

Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

Yep, this is bad. And aso looks like incompetence when the Tories have condemned Reform for doing the exact same thing.

I've been a member of the lobby for well over a decade. Not a single one of my lobby colleagues has said a word about the Conservatives banning me from their conferences, without any explanation. Contrast with the US where even Fox News stood in solidarity when Trump banned news outlets he disliked

Ridiculous behaviour from the Tories. Dealing with unfriendly journalists is a basic requirement for a political party!

I cannot think of one good reason they could have for doing this. Nor even a bad one. They should fix it.

I share Ganesh's irritation with "Good Growth" but I find the rest of this rather facile, honestly. If your solution to the UK's sluggish growth is "Cut pensions, spend it on tax cuts" I do need you to articulate to me why we're not living through Jeremy Hunt's utopia. www.ft.com/content/3b92...

ft.comAt least Burnham doesn’t pretend to care about growthUnlike his predecessors, Britain’s prime minister is a fairly honest stagnation-ist

You know, children, there was a time, not so long ago, when serious journalists - even right wing propagandists cosplaying objectivity - would applaud an experienced, even-tempered Foreign Secretary, like Hague or Hammond, being a bit dry, rather than jumping on stuff as if they were Perez Hilton.

I saw this. It sounds horrible. I hope she recovers well. The piece unfortunately conflates illegal e-motorbikes with legal e-bikes, which makes it hard to decipher what's happened

I spend my week crossing london on a bike and increasingly that means cycling alongside Wayve/Waymo robotaxis. it’s uncomfortable. they give you so much space, don’t do a close pass while accelerating as lights go red. So unnerving if you cycle on assumption everyone’s mental and wants to kill you.

I don’t know. You can over complicate these things. Much easier to just ask ‘is there a negative output gap?’ If the answer is no, you probably don’t want more expansionary fiscal policy.

As honoured as I am to see that The Times has picked up my Chagos article practically *word for word*, including my hard-gotten quotes, I’d prefer some credit — or for everyone to read my original FT piece! free link to read the evidently enviable article below (cheaper than a Times sub!) 🌴

The Palmer we're seeing now would have been picked, but the Palmer we're seeing now does not bear much resemblance to the seemingly unfit and unfocused Palmer we saw last year. Those injuries really took their toll.

What will the Pentagon say? "We can win the campaign against the bond market from the air, sir"

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Reporter on Bond Market: The yields have come back up since then. Have you talked to Bessent about another type of intervention.? Trump: The ultimate intervention is our military. And if we have to use that, we will.

If anyone can explain to me, or sees anything good on, the US doubling its "liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon securities", feel free to enlighten me.

Bbc #Wato (Jonny Dimond) just did a whole item on the Thames barrier needing replacing early… without once mentioning the >reason< why!: ie Without mentioning human caused climate chaos / sea-level rise. In the middle of this summer of extreme climate impacts, that’s a stunning fail. Pse repost.

The Today Programme needs to be careful: it's starting to feel like it's *leading* a Daily Express-style "crusade" against early release, rather than reporting on a horrible policy dilemma.

Every single person who rides an ostentatiously noisy motorbike can just fuck off. Those who do so in London or any town or city, and especially those who use chainsaw-volume engine revving as a “warning” can then fuck off all over again.

It is not historically true. Rebound/Jevons is a brain worm that is based on muddy thinking. Even Jevons himself misunderstood the issue. Steam engines had many advantages over competing technologies. It wasn’t just efficiency.
