Recovering people-pleaser, hoping for benevolent government. Far too optimistic. Gardening and painting allows me to find the strength to follow the politics 🇬🇧🇨🇦

Reasons for imperial You find the ten times table too difficult. You are over 65 and hate your grandkids You are a trader who wants to defraud your customers You are so stuck up with fauxstalgia you need medical help. You are an idiot.
Oh my god, can you believe how far they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel? They’re all as mad as a box of frogs. www.lbc.co.uk/article/refo...

This is why the right loves to demonize student- protests and left-wing movements. Because they know they can topple oligarchs.

And much of Oxford Street is going car-free from tomorrow! I don't even live in London anymore but I'm genuinely excited about this. If it works well, it could be one of Khan's big legacies. People have been talking about doing this for literal decades, and now it's happening.

The political economy of modern conservatism since Thatcher is to offer unfunded giveaways today, while leaving Britain worse off tomorrow. On this basis at least Kemi Badenoch can call herself a real Conservative torstenbell.substack.com/p/kemis-big-...

I grew up in a village and we always had candles on standby and coal for the fire etc... because there were power cuts all the time .. we live in uncertain times and it's not that barmy to be prepared. Just a few years ago people were fighting over toilet paper in supermarkets.

Very interesting argument my George Monbiot, much of this also applies to the North East of England.
“You can tell the economic character of a nation by the way its infrastructure works.” Powerful words from George Monbiot on BBC Question Time explaining how Wales’s economy was built to extract wealth rather than enrich its own people, and why we need the powers to put that right. 🏴 #Annibyniaeth

Asked to respond to whether his team were 'not German enough' or 'not white enough', Klopp said there was no point in giving room to 'such people and their utterances', adding: 'I have little time in everyday life for idiocy'. Story: @kateconnolly.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/football/202...

It's been happening forever, and will happen forever, that rich people fuck off to lower-tax areas and frame it as political defiance of some law they personally don't like. 'Seatbelts in cars make it impossible for me to deliver wealth.' 'Without smoking in pubs, how am I meant to...'
Personally, I’d rather have healthy kids than mollycoddled millionaires

EXC - We *also* have an MRP out today - which has some very striking findings. Progressives who vote tactically to stop Nigel Farage’s Reform UK could push his party into FOURTH place. The poll also shows Burnham’s Labour is winning back left-leaning voters. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

That’s why business investment has grown since 2024 and we’ve seen the fastest growth in the G7 this year (oddly missing from the article). There is lots more to do, but we should focus on the brilliant businesses building modern Britain, not just those who sadly seem to hate it
