Four years in the rabbit hole with millions of Russian military docs, and I finally feel comfortable writing this (very uncomfortable) story.
Russia appears to have upgraded and re-activated the fabled Dead Hand that ensures global nuclear retaliation if Russia comes under attack.
Experts are worried because the re-activation of Perimetr comes in a time of renewed conflict between East and West.
“Perimeter will once again be given priority now in a more tense geopolitical situation in which Russia sees itself as being in conflict with the West”, says Tom Røseth from Norway.

Russia appears to have upgraded and re-activated the fabled Dead Hand that ensures global nuclear retaliation if Russia comes under attack.
Another clue came from a Russian military magasine for veterans of the Strategic Missile Forces. In a number of articles, retired Major General V.G. Khalin, who worked on the Dead Hand, explained how it had been upgraded and put back into combat duty in 2023.
The work on Object 1335 and Perimetr is part of a much broader modernization effort of Russia’s nuclear weapons complex during recent years.
Last year, Danwatch and Der Spiegel revealed how dozens of bases had been completely rebuilt to handle new delivery systems for nuclear weapons.

Quick side note: I am a very big fan of the Russian bureaucracy! They go to such great lengths to conceal sensitive stuff, using different codes and numbers. But then sometimes, whoops, accidentally include something on page 59 of some contract draft that suddenly ties everything together.
Anyway, there was nothing in Kytlym, or in the military unit’s compound a few kilometers away that could explain the materials ordered. Nothing big was being built.
But satellite images reveal that a lot has been going on inside Mount Kosvinsky next to it.

Russia appears to have upgraded and re-activated the fabled Dead Hand that ensures global nuclear retaliation if Russia comes under attack.
The revelation is based on 2.5 million military procurement documents collected from a Russian database in 2024.
Buried in the docs are references to something called ”Object 1335” near the tiny settlement Kytlym in the middle of nowhere in Russia.
Between 2018-2024, thousands of tenders were sent out. By systematic review, we found that gigantic quantities of construction materials were delivered to Kytlym.
More steel than 3 Eiffel towers. More cement than in several modern high-rises. Hundreds of kilometres of cable.
The Danish minister of business reacts to our coverage of the Copenhagen based company Inter Energia, which was run by a sanctioned lawyer, owned by a former KGB agent and works with Rosneft.
In short: Denmark and the EU are not Russias playground.

The mystery deepens!
What connects a former KGB officer in charge of Western "illegals", a Swiss money launderer for Putin, made famous by the Panama Papers, and a sanctioned gas company owned by Rosneft in Latvia?
Well, as it turns out, a company in Copenhagen.
With @jakobbohr.bsky.social
A sanctioned swiss lawyer who according to Panama Papers laundered billions for Vladimir Putin was director of a Danish company for 23 years. The same company that Danwatch could recently reveal worked with Rosneft and was owned by a top spy from the KGB.
The question remains: What's the purpose?
The owner of a holding company in Copenhagen worked for the KGB for 20 years. He was one of several officers responsible for the Soviet Union's "illegals" program that equipped deep cover spies with fake identities to infiltrate the West.
DK director refuses to talk.

A former KGB-agent specialized in producing false papers for spies to infiltrate the West is running a mysterious company in Denmarks capital, Copenhagen. The company is loaded but almost has no activity. Experts warn this is the kind of hybrid operations the Russians currently run.

Russian influence operators called it Project 2026. The plan wasn’t just to spread fabricated stories on social media platforms. It outlined efforts to create an alternative information ecosystem.

Shouldn't universities the world over be condemning US/Israeli attacks on a university in Iran, or will they generally be silent like they were on Gaza? #IranWar#AcademicChatter
Is russia actually preparing to invade #Estonia?
Lately, Western but sadly also Ukrainian media and bloggers have been sounding the alarm about 70,000 troops and hundreds of tanks at the border.
But satellite imagery tells a very different story. 🧵 1/13
An Iranian (highly unusual)-Russian crewed false flagged, false documenter container ship is detained since a month by Danish authorities.
Hazmat suites was been needed to inspect it, documents points to chemicals on board and the security services will not comment further. Danwatch keeps digging
It's been a while.
I'm finally back at work and happy to share our newest piece on the detained Iranian tanker Nora, which is currently moored in Kalundborg for mysterious reasons.
Leaked data shows it's crewed by Iranians and a single Russian and that all its papers are seemingly falsified.
The container ship "Nora" sailed under false flag, but swiftly changed to Iranian when caught.
Now it's been detained for almost a month and has been searched by DK officials in hazmat gear.
Now it turns out all docs aboard are fakes.

Exactly how many days in a row can Donald Trump declare victory in Iran before you braindead MAGA motherfuckers finally realize that he's lying to you? Seriously, give me a number
It was a US strike that killed 165 schoolgirls. Mostly aged 7-12.
While it was likely unintentional, the decision to strike a military target in a densely populated civilian area was not.
Yes, difficult decisions have to be made in war.
I don’t trust this bloodthirsty regime to make good ones.
Having faced no consequences for anything, Trump has noticed that he has the world’s largest military at his command, and believes he has found a brilliant solution for solving problems that no one before him was smart enough to discover: just kill everyone in your way, until they obey you.
Time to dump ChatGPT!
The latest model of ChatGPT has begun to cite Elon Musk’s Grokipedia as a source on a wide range of queries, including on Iranian conglomerates and Holocaust deniers, raising concerns about misinformation on the platform.
One of the stories that makes me the saddest out of this ICE invasion is one out of the Minnesota Star Tribune today about ICE agents eating at a little Mexican restaurant in the small town of Willmar, Minn, —and then, when they were done, arresting some of the workers.
German intelligence for years intercepted Obama's calls from Air Force One, @holgerstark.bsky.social reveals.
So Germany has been a more mature country than it pretended to be ("Ausspähen unter Freunden geht gar nicht"). A pity we didn't have grown-up debate on the Snowden stuff back then.

Agree with reinforcing. But it’s high time to drop this tragic misunderstanding about provoking bullies.
Bullies respect strength. They are not provoked by strength and resolve. They are *deterred* by strength and resolve and provoked by *lack* of either.
Let’s not repeat this mistake any more.
Trump on Christmas: “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria.”
With the new U.S. national security strategy (“NSC-88”), I think it is high time to ban Twitter in the EU altogether. At the very least, what the ever loving hell are our politicians doing there anymore?
They provide material for a system that will be used to attack us.
X rolled out a new feature overnight showing where accounts are based. This network of “Trump-supporting independent women” that claimed to be “real Americans” are based in Thailand.
The photos were stolen from European models & posts pushed pro-Trump lines while targeting Islam and LGBTQ people.
Many people have wondered how the Finns defend Finland today, so here's a very short introduction to modern Finnish defence policy - and a brief synopsis of how the Finnish military would probably fight if any hostile country decided to invade. 1/
