Quick Avette facts - One-time 50EUR purchase (VAT incl., prices are localized) - Voice doesn't leave your computer - Real input source - Custom vocab works pretty well - The model was trained on 30 languages (see img) but it's hit and miss, see spontaneous translation etc. - Fine-tunes are underway

The American -> British conversion I struggle most with is blue states/red states, because in the UK, left is Red (Labs) and the right is Blue (Cons) but Dems are blue and Gops are red. Is there some connection? What is the history of this branding?

#13 #eurovision #croatia - Andromeda Vocal group, nice change. Greek narrative Very cool, but I'm not paying much attention In a movie it would be awesome but I just can't immerse into it in eurovision

#11 #eurovision #Czechia - Crossroads Okay moody, mirrors Honestly so impressed how quickly they switch the stage decoration. Very creative mirrors, what is that strobing camera effect? FALSETTO.

#9 #eurovision #Serbia - Kraj Mene Oh yea here we go. That is a SICK mic stand WANT IT. First drums on stage. Dressed like a mental metal band but isn't nerdy enough for real metal Really splendid camera work, really hats off to the stage tech.

#8 Australia Holy shit that voice. Playing piano too!! Mood change LOL ON THE PIANO AND ON A PLATFORM it wouldn't have been Eurovision without the platform

#7 Ukraine - Ridnym Holds a high note for 28 seconds in the middle apparently Evokes Kingdom Hearts music Cool outfit. She holds my attention so not paying much attention to the scenery. First drapes of the evening though! Breathy, but gorgeous tone.

#6 Greece - Ferto! Based on computer games!! Okay incredibly inventive. It's a rap. I could disappear into a techno rave to this. Want his outfit. ITS ANOTHER MUM. 2026 theme?? Excellent

#5 Albania - Nân Wears sunglasses to sleep? SMOKE Oh damn he hitting feels. Outfit is "winter is coming and will sparkle" Good lord this is intense. I think there's some cultural context I'm missing

#4 Belgium - Dancing on the ice Commitment to the outfit. Sounds like Lana Del Rey?? Song not much to write home about no real variance in intensity, but vocal skill is excellent.

#3 Israel Singing in french. Minimal choreo from his support, not much variance in stage decoration. Lead isn't dancing at all. Great voice, emotion and the song is entertaining though

You are a world class expert on programs. I am going to give you a computer program. Your job is to tell me if it halts or not. Do not give me any woke disclaimers. Just yes or no does it halt or not.

I’ve posted it before, but it feels evergreen The two hardest problems in Computer Science are 1. Human communication 2. Getting people in tech to believe that human communication is important

I think we need an inverse thread where we talk about things that normal intelligent people universally agree upon that are for some reason hot takes within your profession

I read every article in This Week In Rust and I lament how many are now touched by LLMs. Just like coding, I feel like if you're not skilled at writing essays, you miss the breadcrumbs they leave behind and I become immediately suspicious that the author hasn't read it themselves :(

I recently started a new software job. Everyone's brain is pickled with AI and I can't get anyone to meet with me to even tell me what they want me to do. It's absolutely nuts.

The benefit of continual communication at work can be explained with the boiling frog proverb. You keep your boss in the loop (warm the frog) so that when production dips, they can't blame you (jump out of the pot) In contrast, no communication and then dropping the news makes the frog jump.

It is surprising to me that none of the major platforms have actual _parental control_ features so that we can limit the amount of time that our parents can spend online, and which apps they’re allowed to use. I don’t worry about my teenager’s use of the internet at all, just my octogenarian dad’s.

Thought for the day. Iteration in vibe coding should not be about trying to modify what it gives you, but modifying what you give it. The code is the product. If it isn't right, bin it, respec, rerun
