From what I know of people in Manhattan I would have to agree. Also see the running gag about Dorsia in American Paycho

How do you feel about someone setting up an automated process that hammers restaurant-reservation websites to gain an advantage in booking a table? The NY Times thinks this is not only acceptable; it's a "killer task" for AI, worth paying $100/month. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/t...

So many hard fought battles over improving Bay Area transit -- and the author of this essay @icgee.bsky.social has been in the middle of many of them -- are paying off. We have to pass RTM and Prop H to protect progress!

Musk thinks he's this scary badass, but he might as well have typed "While you were running for office, I studied the blade." Somebody pants this dork and stuff him in the Gatorade cooler.

YES ON MEASURE RTM (BAY AREA) - If it doesn't pass, Caltrain could close up to 10 stations, eliminate weekend service, reduce frequency to hourly, end service by 9 p.m. - undoing all the success of electrification and devastating the local economy. Save Bay Area Transit, Vote Yes on RTM!

This is a long shot, but I'm looking for a TDS3EM Ethernet extension card for a Tektronix TDS3000(B) series oscilloscope like the one shown. I only need it for about a few hours. If anyone in the SF Bay Area has one and willing to loan it or to allow me do my thing at their place, let me know!

I don't know what this means but "information theory forbids your metaphysics" is an insult I must find an occasion to deliver

If you carry out the torture chamber LLM experiments by doing all the matrix multiplications and whatnot with a pen and paper, and you produce, like, “ow ow that hurts”, what exactly is the entity that is being tortured?

similar to NaN payloads they should let you stuff ~6 instruction bytes into a function pointer FExxxxxx xxxxxxx0. cpu with native support would execute it in the call opcode. else the kernel can make up a page full of repeats on access.

But, the security+compatibility contract keeps a stable baseline on the Microsoft side. Controversial take, but if we enter this era where users are giving AI agents increasingly higher levels of access control; the Linux kernel is legitimately a poor fit.

"we need to slow down because our capex is unsustainable, but we want to keep our competitive advantage so all governments should somehow ban Chinese linear algebra" does not strike me as a particularly achievable policy

lol two months ago OpenAI was signing a letter about how important open weights models were and now their house propagandist is saying “we will ban open weights and you will thank us for it”. You can’t hate this company enough

I am sympathetic to Silicon Valley guys ascribing human-level consciousness to AI because if I had to talk to people from Silicon Valley all day I’d probably have a real low bar for sentience too

Jeff Trull reposted

You know, honestly, more than monetary donations, if somebody worked at a company that had access to a lot of 18 terabyte and larger hard drives and could talk to us, that's where we are really suffering. The internet archive has no special priority in buying hard drives and those things are insane.

I wonder what percentage of coding interviews have permanently shifted from questions like “reverse a linked list” to “how do you verify Claude correctly reversed a linked list?”

I was going to say "life hack: stop applying for jobs from companies that never get back to you and start asking angels for money instead", then realized oh wait, that's what all these kids crammed into Silicon Valley "hacker houses" are doing right now.

EE folks: what's a good configurable clock synthesizer chip? requirements: - two outputs, 3.3V (diff or single-ended) - wide range of frequencies up to 250..400 MHz (for FPGA input) - can be configured using a relatively simple algorithm, as opposed to a closed-source Windows application

MIDNIGHT DINER has the dreaded "Leaving Soon" on Netflix and if you have ever taken my advice about anything, take this--one of my favorite TV shows of all time. This is one I desperately wish I had the physical media of.

Funniest thing about buying Cursor for $60b is it once again shows that Musk is not really technically savvy, just a good salesman/manipulator. Cursor is basically worthless. Nobody uses their models because they're ass, and Grok's are even worse. It's just a VS Code frontend to better models.
