Critical part of the President's new $100,000 charge for H1-B visas: The Administration can also offer a $100,000 discount to any person, company, or industry that it wants. Replacing rules with arbitrary discretion. Want visas? You know who to call and who to flatter.

I know we keep focusing on Colbert and Kimmel as we should, but we also need to remember there are hundreds of people who work for these shows who also just lost their jobs because of this bullshit, and most of them are probably not millionaires.

I appeared in front of a judge in LA who absolutely made a finding of DV against a spouse based on their threats to call ICE. She said it was coercive control and intimidation.

People missing an important point about folks getting fired for whatever they said about Charlie Kirk: Americans are being conditioned to be snitches on their fellow citizens who don’t toe a party line on what is “allowed” to be expressed. And employers are going along. It’s the new secret police

Watching all these centrist pundits stress the “civility” of Charlie Kirk’s style without addressing the ugliness of his substance is giving me a renewed appreciation of how the civil, polite White Citizens’ Councils conned the same crowd into thinking they were distinct from the cruder Klan.

Too bad the GOP effectively criminalized studying how information moves online and news orgs laid off and demonized all the reporters who covered the burgeoning online accelerationist performative death cults. All of that work was somehow "censorship" that needed to be stopped. Now we're here.

Create something. As long as I know there are writers, artists, actors, cooks, songwriters, poets, and singers who are out there doing their thing for themselves and others, I'm going to be great. #WeeknightWriters

Q4: What can we, the #WeeknightWriters community, do to help you get through this next week?

I got my flu shot and it was a little pinchy but not bad. I wasn't able to schedule my covid shot for this year in any major pharmacy websites in spite of the recent order from Gov. Healey, but I was able to add on a covid shot for this afternoon when I checked in for our flu shots.

10yo was only able to get the flu shot this time around, and we will have to return and get the pediatric covid shot when the pharmacy gets its supply in, which should be soon. I think we will possibly have better luck just walking in and requesting an appt in person rather than trying online again.

Vaccines are battle training for your immune system. If you could give it intel on the enemy, why would you withhold that? Give me ALL the vaccines! I want to be prepared for everything!

Hank Green@hankgreen.bsky.social

As a guy who got a cancer that was probably caused by a virus, I think we should have /more/ vaccines.

The RFK hearing is a remarkable example of someone in real-time being informed about where they are on the Dunning-Kruger curve.

Tried to schedule Covid vaccine appointments at our local CVS for me and my 10yo. Got a notice that we are both ineligible for the vaccine, but this is based on the incorrect CDC guidance. I wrote to our providers to request vaccine orders be sent to our local CVS. Will update once they respond.

Despite the academic capitulations, media collapse, and Trump's attacks on history and race, it's now more important than ever to teach on all of these issues. So I will. I have set up an independent course to teach Race, Media and International Affairs 101 and 102 in October. Sign up here!

As someone who has learned from and reported on families who had loved ones disappeared in Guatemala, Chile, and Uruguay, I can say that countries rarely fully recover from the trauma and harm of disappearances. At the same time I have no idea how to report on this happening here in the US right now

Soldiers in MRAPs rolling around Union Station—blocks from the Capitol—seems silly, performative, and useless. But it raises a much darker question: What would Trump have done on Jan. 6, 2021 if he had possessed then the kind of control over local law enforcement that he seeks to acquire today?

27 years ago, two years after the introduction of effective HIV treatment, the Bay Area Reporter, San Francisco’s lesbian and gay community newspaper, ran ‘No Obits’ as its headline. It was the first edition not to report an AIDS death in almost 15 years.
