It’s just so appalling and enraging how casual and commonplace this has become. I’m out of words.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

The news from Brazil and Serbia are great and show that you don't defeat the far right by copying it or trying to appeal to their supporters You do it by being uncompromising, showing the danger they pose and offering something different to the many crises people suffer from

None of us should forget this. Meta should be subjected to corporate death penalty and permanently broken up into small pieces.

What an absolute bell end. Even if he wins, this is just gonna be another one of those assholes who only cares about power and sucking up to Fox News, like Sinema and Fetterman.

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

I don't really think there is any chance of American democracy surviving of all of these people aren't in prison cells within 1-3 years of Trump being out of the White House. If they don't go to prison forever for this then this is now permanently how all American government works from now on.

This is sad. General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s historic World War II globe was broken when Pete Hegseth’s team dropped it while trying to move it into his office.

We live in the most debased political environment in modern American history and even so, I am slackjawed that this vileness is being pursued. This woman sided with the rapist and abuser of her 12-year-old daughter. After he was indicted, she fled with him rather than face court. The GOP is trash.

Great news! The Trump admin went to the Supreme Court looking for permission to forcibly detransition inmates who have been on hormones for decades, deliberately denying them medical care that their doctors prescribed. Thankfully, the Court refused to grant the request. Alito and Thomas would have.

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.

So if Trump's Republicans get hammered in 2 weeks, will that finally lead a number of them to break with him during the lame duck phase if only to save their own skins? Or are they going to go all in on a coup?

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

Every indication right now is that Dem lead in generic House ballot matchup is growing. New NBC poll has Dems +10. Given that Nate Silver's averages now have Dems +9.6 (a big deal!), the Dem lead might enter double digits very soon. On the pod, we dig into all of it: newrepublic.com/article/2168...

The US is now helping Russia kill Ukrainian civilians, and destroy Ukrainian energy infrastructure heading into winter. Another big line crossed. It's really bad. Only saving grace I can think of is this might reflect Trump and Putin's worry that the US midterms means their window is closing.

Tom Nichols@radiofreetom.bsky.social

Humiliating and dangerous: Trump has now finally just made America an ally of the Kremlin and is aiding Putin in his war against an American friend and partner. Shameful betrayal of a US friend, and pathetic submission to a US enemy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

Excerpt: “Trump is living up to his reputation as America’s greatest enemy by actually using U.S. dollars to pay not only for attacks on our allies and, by extension, on the Western Alliance, but also by making it possible for Iran to target and kill more Americans. Our president is at war with us.”

Did we really win the Cold War? Defeat fascism? Bury the Confederacy? In retrospect, thanks to Trump, MAGA and their enablers, perhaps none of those things. My latest. Hope you’ll give it a read. davidrothkopf.substack.com/p/so-as-it-t...

Sorry but way more than 90% of C-suite have absolutely no clue what they're talking about when it comes to AI, so their opinions are meaningless.

I mean it’s good to see a bit of contrition, but “we gave our employees some software with no clear application which I assumed was magic and ordered them to use it for everything” needs a “so I have no choice but to resign” at the end. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Before Citizens United, the top 15 political contributors spent just $15 million on the midterm election. Now, the top 15 have spent $962 MILLION. That's up 6,400%. THIS is why our system is so rigged. We really, really have to end Citizens United and tax the rich.

There are real moral dilemmas these days. Like, should we guillotine billionaires? Or hang them from streetlamps? Or fire them into space on their own phallic substitutes? I favour the last one but I'm open to persuasion.
