I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

The news from Brazil and Serbia are great and show that you don't defeat the far right by copying it or trying to appeal to their supporters You do it by being uncompromising, showing the danger they pose and offering something different to the many crises people suffer from

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

between serbia, brazil, and hopefully november 3, a good reminder: voting works it’s not the end, there’s always work to be done after the vote, but if you want to beat the motherfuckers and keep them out of power: vote your asses off

A Lula win is great news for those of us who enjoy breathing air, and will probably save several species from extinction

I walked up on a mountain in the middle of the sky Could see every farm and every town I could see all the people in this whole wide world That's the union that'll tear the fascists down, down, down That's the union that'll tear the fascists down

A common experiment in phishing research is testing which personality types are resilient to phishing. It turns out every test gets different results, because everyone is vulnerable to emails crafted tor their personality. It's dangerous to trust someone who knows you and is trying to trick you.

The number of times I've seen calling an unnecessary early election backfire at this point has gotten me all

James Ball@jamesrball.com

1. Call an early election because the opposition is in chaos 2. Early election causes opposition to stop being in chaos 3. Polls move against you 4. Oh. *Really* against you (Conservatives will be majority government). 5. Resign

YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING is now ON SALE at the PCC. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary arrives with some of the biggest hype we can remember around a documentary, and the reaction so far has been extraordinary. 🎟️: buff.ly/J8aogDr

I'm pureeing liquid dead horse at this point, but: policy choice! technology cannot be uninvented, but specific networks can be broken. we do not have to live in a world with instagram and TikTok! a dozenish companies whose continued viability is contingent on existing laws! not inevitable!

This makes me angry, as the nerdy autistic kid who has always been exploited by peers & made to do much more than my share. You’re teaching the kids that do well in school that they owe other people free labor, time, & knowledge. Autistics in particular are already vulnerable to such manipulation.

Ann Leckie@annleckie.com

"But what do we do with the gifted kids, they'll just sit in class and twiddle their thumbs?" I don't know, I guess it's impossible for them to help their classmates, or work on a project in class that uses their curiosity and also teaches their classmates something. <shrug> Guess we can't!

I've seen some people say that game development should be more like movies, in that you get a series of people together for a project and them everyone moves on (+ strong unions), has anyone written a more detailed explanation of that? Or at least a deep dive on how the "Hollywood model" works?

More generally, are there good essays/articles/texts about the pathologies of the video games industry and how it could be fixed?
