The fact that billionaires can just buy an entire film distribution company that has been running and respected for over a decade to kill a documentary about their billionaire friend and nothing can be done about it is just Fuck man

What is the BBC's justification for maintaining this level of coverage of Reform now it has slipped into third place?

Alex Andreou@sturdyalex.bsky.social

BBC News just interrupted its coverage to go, live, to Nigel Farage - a man with no contitutional standing in our setup - responding to the budget - a document which nobody has seen yet. WHY

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

Am loving the "No, everything is still awful or soon will be" replies here, the day after two right wing authoritarians lose decisively...take the win guys. Feel happy and optimistic for one day at least. Plenty of opportunities to be miserable!

I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

A newspaper promising the first images of pedestrianised Oxford Street used a single screenshot from a traffic camera. Now, why didn't I think of that when I spent two cold hours on Oxford Street last night? www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/las...

ianvisits.co.ukLast buses run down Oxford Street as pedestrianisation kicks inJust before 8pm on Sunday evening, the last buses and taxis made their way along the half of Oxford Street that is now fully pedestrianised.

A Florida family says police escorted them from a youth soccer field after parents complained that their 3-year-old son, Nevada, was dominating games against older children. His parents say he scored multiple goals despite being repeatedly substituted.

This👇. Good news. Lula wins Brazilian election, defeating Trump’s pick, Flavio Bolsonaro.

Adam Schwarz@adamjschwarz.bsky.social

Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

Serbia finally got rid of Vučić, just like Hungary got rid of Orbán a few months ago. It's always encouraging to see, especially as both were supported by both the Kremlin and the White House, and still lost pathetically

Oh this is good news.

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

❗️Serbia’s student-led movement has defeated Aleksandar Vučić, ending his long grip on power. For Ukraine, this removes a leader who recognized its territorial integrity but repeatedly refused sanctions on Russia, resisted stronger pressure on Moscow and maintained ties with the Kremlin. #Ukraine

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

The "poor Russian conscripts" are actually, in the overwhelming majority, not conscripts at all, but people who go to war to murder Ukrainians for money. "They have no choice" - what bullshit. Going to jail instead of bombing a playground full of children is a choice. Emigration is a choice.
