I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

there’s no such thing as “strategic bigotry.” I know this because there is no amount of money you could pay me to become a bigot. the democrats who do this agree to do it because they’re bigots

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

i really do think that a successful impeachment and removal of hegseth is a live possibility if dems win the senate. he is a genuine disaster.

Laleh Khalili@lalehkhalili.bsky.social

Man, Hegseth's Department of War is even more buffoonish than everything else. Kinda amazed how the US military didn't just have some basic war plans they could activate. Their lack of preparedness is astonishing. meidasnews.com/news/so-much...

The wildest thing my TikTok algorithm does to me is think I’m an anti-Stratfordian. It’s been years, but today I got a whole ass video of some dork just “asking” questions on why don’t we have anything hand-written by this world famous writer.

and didn’t become this important literary figure well after that. I’m no Shakespearean expert, but I can at least ascertain that much info and also assume that people don’t really seek out and keep letters from people unless they’re really, really important within their own lifetimes.

And I’m only writing this all out here because I refuse to add engagement to that video on TikTok. Gotta ignore, report, and scroll away. But at the same time come ON people!

“Even Ghengis Khan has letters.” Ok, well he was an important political figure in HIS lifetime. Shakespeare, while becoming wealthy at the end of his life and was well-respected in the theater scene, didn’t have all of his works published until 7 years AFTER his death

🙋‍♀️I consider abortion a good option, and a social good writ large! Pregnancy is not a punishment for contraceptive failure or contraceptive lack or contraceptive refusal. I am pro-abortion, period. Same as I'm pro-chemotherapy, pro-insulin, pro-root canal, pro-pap-smear.

I think that, like every other attempt they’ve made to go after high profile regime enemies through the legal system, this is likely to end poorly for them in court it is also an extremely dangerous escalation and should be treated like the emergency it is by both Dem leadership and the media

WSJ: 'The Trump administration’s investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar is aimed at building a case to strip her of her U.S. citizenship and ultimately deport her, according to U.S. officials and other people familiar with the probe'

Look, I loved The Odyssey as much as the next filmbro, but $300 for a collector’s edition that comes with a hardcover book and placard sounds very stupid. Shouldn’t be surprised it’s sold out already, but here we are!

I will say that version of the movie had the best steel cover case, so if that’s why everybody went for it then I understand. Except I don’t because it was *300* fucking dollars

Back in my day, you could buy a video game console for that, but I guess we’re in such a recession that’s now the price of a collector’s edition boxset. Like what the actual fuck?

Now with all the Russian bots taken out, are we allowed to talk about how fucking good Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi actually is without being bombarded by the angry “mob?”

Maybe my third favorite SW movie, and I like the Canto Bight subplot. In fact, it’s my fav subplot outside of the Luke Skywalker stuff. Super satisfying to see the gambling and billionaire sector get taken out by Fathiers (the racing reindeer)!

And Benicio del Toro as DJ was unreal. Have no clue why they didn’t bring him back for future movies, but Finn’s whole story arc and all the characters he meets I thought were fucking awesome. I get why John Boyega would be frustrated how his character was handled, tho.

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register
