This story is all about the Defence Industrial Joint Council, set up last year with Palantir on it At the council's first meeting, MoD's industrial strategy director Barney Kistruck said there would be an 'emphasis on procurement reform' Three months later, Kistruck left the MoD - for Palantir

Sorry just realised I missed a very important clarification here for those who haven’t seen the model. 50,000 is predicted net migration.

Desperate stuff Home Secretary originally argued (very misleadingly) care workers shouldn't be allowed to settle because their wages were so low that they'd be a fiscal cost. Now she's arguing they shouldn't be allowed to settle because they'd get better paid jobs www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

Disappointing to see that basic facts about these proposals are not being accurately reported, almost a year after their publication The government's policy documents are clear that care workers face a tripling of their route to settlement to 15 years www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

It would seem the Home Office has now acquired the ability to impose, without visibility or accountability, shadow bans on students coming to British universities from particular countries. How? Because of the interaction between indiv visa decisions (made by HO alone) and visa rules for unis 1/?
Anecdotally what seems to be happening is that the Home Office is refusing all student visa applications from certain countries. The Treasury should have told them to knock if off years ago but at this point the FCO needs to tell them to stop trying to cause an international incident.

The Home Secretary rightly points out that nearly all women who make dangerous journeys to the UK are survivors of rape. So why does the Govt. detain women on arrival, let women languish in the asylum system for months and years on end, & close safe routes that support women and children? 1/2

Some Greens feel Polanski has shown a complete lack of leadership on the motion, saying he was happy to see an influx of new members but then did nothing to make sure they stuck with Green values. In fairness, the leader has few powers. But they do have influence - and Polanski has not exerted any.

Epic timing for a Holborn and St Pancras by election.
The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

And apologies… as has been correctly pointed out… £4- to £7bn is the cost to the Treasury, not the economy… where the cost is far higher, and should include the opportunities lost also… The relentless drumbeat to cut immigration has become a ruinous and dangerous national madness.

The Times - which has v much joined in the rightwing clamour to reduce immigration - now reporting that Mahmood’s “success” has cost the economy £4- to £7Bn. Would they like to now honestly confirm that fewer people = less spending power for all. There’s a high price to pay for this nasty obsession.
