I don’t think this is exactly what’s going on, or all that’s going on. It’s not that Republicans are constructing an elaborate psychological defense against evidence that Trump is a rapist. It’s that they like that he’s a rapist, and they like rape: it enacts the power of the strong over the weak.
The vile attacks on Amy Acton need to be seen in the context of a party that *needs* people to believe women fabricating sexual assaults is common as rainwater. Because it’s pretty much the only way to evade the conclusion that the president is a rapist.
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
It's insane that the campaign against El-Sayed is basically that he has some secret relationship with the people that the president's family has a secret relationship with.
This is sickening.
Trump is inciting his mob in Michigan to reject El-Sayed from the Capitol. The same way Todd Beamer, the 9/11 hero from Michigan, died stopping Flight 93 from hitting the Capitol.
El-Sayed doesn't deserve this.
Todd Beamer doesn't deserve this.
America doesn't deserve this.
This is absolutely horrible! A nonverbal student with special needs was walking to Santa Maria High School when ICE agents tackled him, restrained him, and left him with a broken wrist requiring surgery, according to witnesses and school officials.
I'm a doctor and a dad. I rebuilt Detroit's health department, led Wayne County's Department of Health, Human and Veterans Services. We put glasses on kids, took on corporate polluters, eliminated medical debt.
It just shouldn't be this hard to get by in the richest country in the world.
🚨 VILE: Vivek Ramaswamy’s new attack ad against Amy Acton features her estranged mother, who stayed married to the man who sexually abused her daughter at age 12, even after his arrest.
Now even conservatives are calling the ad disgusting.
The horrifying story behind Vivek’s attack:
JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday.
Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.
Dems, time to focus on fighting fascism. If you're a centrist and you have an issue with progressives, a progressive who has an issue with centrists, a pro-Israel Dem who has an issue with critics, or anyone else inclined to slow our pace to a big victory in November, have a seat, save it for later.
The Putin-Trump diesel deal is disastrous and illegal — but it is also a sign of the desperation of both men, one fearing to lose a war, the other to lose an election.
Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.
tomorrow will tie 2022's record for number of days with the national average above $4/gal. 2022 saw 157 days above $4. today is our 156th day above $4 this year. tomorrow, we tie that 157 days and Wednesday we set a new record for most days above $4/gal in any year ever.
Indigenous Peoples' Day celebrates the culture and resilience of the native stewards of this land.
Our nation is better when we honor our shared history, and shared responsibility for this beautiful country we call home.
The sci-fi fantasy that AI hucksters use to fool people into thinking there can be manmade intelligence is that it goes all the way back to 1818, with the publication of "Frankenstein."
In the very first version of "AI," Mary Shelley got something fundamental about the desire to believe.
I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.
I will not be silenced.
Day 1690 and Ukraine woke up incredibly angry this morning.
"Used", "betrayed" and "disgusted" just 3 of the words most commonly heard, as the former leader of the free world managed to tarnish the reputation of the U.S. yet more.
I've never missed a day. This is the daily 🧵
"Targeting those who bankroll the Russian war machine through oil purchases will crush Putin's ability to fund his war." — Senate GOP, July 28
Ten weeks later, Trump is making oil deals with Putin.
A brief history of Republicans being against this, until they weren't 👇
Republicans across the country are sitting in their living rooms and salivating on themselves thinking about her suffering.
Those are your neighbors, and they are many things, but not one Republican on Earth is a Christian.
Not one.
A recent survey found that 92% of U.S. adults have delayed or avoided medical care due to high costs.
Meanwhile, a new study from Yale estimates that Medicare for All would save over 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year.
If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have universal healthcare.
NEW: @apnews.com confirms that ICE has begun electronically "disappearing" people in the agency's custody who have final orders of removal.
As of last week, anyone jailed by ICE with a final order of removal will NOT appear in the ICE Online Detainee Locator System, making them effectively vanish.
Stay tuned for more on this from mainstream reporting hopefully later today, but Bob's got the gist of it; last week, it appears that ICE began disappearing people from the Online Detainee Locator System the moment they get a final order of removal.
Yes, this is as deeply screwed up as it sounds.
ICE likely violated the Constitution when agents delivered a warning notice to a man in Rochester, New York, over a caustic email he had sent the agency’s leader months earlier, a federal judge ruled.
My kids have measles, I can't afford gas or steak, I can't get a mortgage, and I have explosive diarrhea from a parasite that the CDC no longer monitors. But at least now there are signs outside the Smithsonian accusing the curators of political bias.
