I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you

reading this, it does seem as if “rationalism” is an elaborate intellectual architecture designed primarily to support the idea that if you were born white, male and clever then you are the genetic elite and entitled to rule.

This is another great, approachable explainer on “the rationalist wackos who have managed to take over much of the AI industry, and who now have tons of money and political power.” www.iankduncan.com/personal/202...

Replying to @doctorow.pluralistic.net

The belief that bots can teach your kids or counsel your psychological problems or look after your health is perfectly consistent with the belief that you're more-or-less a bot, and also that the teachers, doctors and shrinks you rely on are *also* basically bots: pluralistic.net/2026/07/28/h...

The best way to understand the American Jewish community is that we are, in the aggregate, a group of liberals whose institutions are largely controlled by a much smaller faction of very well-funded conservatives

Yes. Half of the British government, at least, is now guilty of crimes against humanity.

Matt Weiner@mattweiner19.bsky.social

Seriously: if philosophers are going to debate any and all Controversial Ideas, we should be debating whether taking part in an official government attack on a vulnerable minority--knowing that it is motivated by animus against that minority--should be considered a crime against humanity.

Damn that’s crazy but you can’t be racist against the computer. Yeah. No I hear you but. Yeah it’s because it’s not a person it’s the computer.

it's been long enough that I feel ready to state this difficult truth: in SMW, Yoshi's yellow shell ability/Yellow Yoshi's ability with any shell feel phoned in compared to the other two. it's multi-use, but only at knife range. a fireball spread is more useful, and flight is more fun

Thank you, NBC, for noting this is in fact an American city. Too many people here pretend it isn't.

NBC News@nbcnews.com

A major humanitarian crisis is unfolding in a San Juan, Puerto Rico. Hundreds of thousands of people in and around the American city are facing rolling water shutoffs brought on by an historic drought. NBC News’ George Solis reports from a well that locals are using to get their water.

@doctorow.pluralistic.net Hi Cory, do you happen to know of any IP lawyers with experience handling CC BY-SA cases in the USA? None of the lawyer links on the Creative Commons work, unfortunately. I can provide more details in DM if needed. Thank you very much!

If someone is actually, in good faith, “just asking questions,” they stop asking once those questions have been answered. Every question about trans women in sports, trans kids, etc., is extremely answered. Anyone still “asking” in 2026 just doesn’t like the answers and wants you to ignore them.

Rodger Sherman@rodger.bsky.social

i don't believe anyone has "good-faith" concerns about trans women in sports in 2026. there's been too much time to hear the actual evidence, the actual people affected, and the role the debate plays in attempts to purge trans people from American life. anybody picking that side has made a choice

I have to say that I was not watching the next major curveball in my life to come flying at me out of an article in Variety.
