please stop replying to game devs saying things like "well look on the bright side those laid off devs can start their own indie studios now" because eventually one of us is going to snap and "WITH WHAT FUCKING MONEY" would be a shitty last thing to hear before you die

This one has felt so grimly inevitable for so long. Long live some of the greatest games the medium has ever seen. The people behind them deserve so much better.

Consolidation is killing our industry. The Gamergaters who make money off the rage game will have you think this is a victory. This is purely a loss. A loss of work and art and fun and expression in a space that desperately needs it. Massive fucking bummer.

The Star Wars prequels used a surprising amount of practical effects and models. The crowd during the podrace was thousands of colored Q-tips with a fan underneath.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

There were 27 miles of rope used for rigging in Master & Commander. Modern rope naturally coils in the opposite direction of rope made during the Napoleonic wars. So the production paid a shop to make period accurate cordage.

Escape from New York, the glider scene. It's '81, a year before Tron revolutionised CG and Carpenter has 1/3 of Tron's budget...so how did he pull off an absurdly sophisticated wireframe simulation?! It's actually a cardboard city painted matte black, lined with reflective tape and lit with UV.

Order of the Sinking Star is such a simple idea - add a mechanic, push it to its natural limit, add a new mechanic, push both together to the limit, add another... It's loop scratches my brain in just the right way - scoff at the possibility of a solution, experiment have AHA moment. Wonderful.

Kinda Funny's Top100 has been a balm this week. What a thing to take a week away from critique and ratings and reviews, just to celebrate games with the joy that they bring us. What a very special thing to do. And what a wonderful bunch of people who do it.

Having a string of simply magical Late-Gamr Blue Prince runs - acheiving multiple long-term goals each time. My daughter and I are on the verge of getting our 8th trophy to unlock Blue Tents (will need lots of coin though!!) then we'll be aiming at the Sceptre

Still trying not to look up solutions to puzzles unless we're reeeeeeeally confident we have the answer and don't want to waste time pursuing red herrings, we've mostly been ok the money but some of this stuff is WILD

This story absolutely destroyed me. CW for suicide and the absurdly hateful policies of the Trump administration, but it should be mandatory reading. These people are being pushed past their limits, and the consequences affect us all.

Just a reminder that these Haitian immigrants in Springfield -- who came here legally, did everything they were asked to do and more -- became a target of federal crackdowns because the white nationalist vice president shamelessly spread racist lies about them.

Got MAESTRO on Switch2 for my birthday - exceptionally fun rhythm conducting game. Great variety of scores, a real musical education for my daughter! She likes the Jazz standards - tried Caravan but her timing was a bit off and I accidentally threw a chair at her head.

porn is so deeply misogynistic. i just watched a video with dozens of performers going at it, and they literally hadn’t bothered to hire a single woman.

I found out how many times a 7 year old can ask "Are we there yet?" On a 9 hour drive... More than you would think. More than you would possibly believe...

Why am I being fed ads on Youtube (still image as I scroll through feed) for cigarettes which can be delivered anywhere in Australia in 3 days? Advertising tobacco in Australia is illegal. I've reported this ad multiple times. You're telling me YouTube's AI can't immediately recognise cigarettes?

Was trying to stay up for tonight's Nintendo Direct but am absolutely wiped after only 6 hours sleep following the Zelda direct. 2 nights in a row past midnight? In my 40s? In this economy?? I'll catch up in the morning

Barely hanging on here in anticipation of the Zelda Direct in around 34 hours. It'll be midnight for me, but I'm very prepared to be utterly shattered on Wednesday morning to watch it live. Ocarina was a formative gaming moment for me, I'm so excited to see what they've been working on.

Finally got through to Room 46 for the first time on my 2nd playthrough of @blueprincegame.bsky.social, this time on Switch. A lot longer this time as I knew of so many more secrets to focus on, and I'm still planning on doing many many more runs to uncover everything I can. My god. What a game.

And one the very next run my daughter and I managed to tick off 3 different longterm goals, including completely draining the Reservoir which we'd never managed on our first playthrough! I'm going for as complete as I can, Curse Mode, Dare Mode, Atelier Path - everything!

A “what if the very wealthy are right to hoard resources and revile the poor?” major release film starring one of Hollywood’s most notoriously disgusting assholes is exactly the sort of shit we’ll be getting more of as the studios keep merging into one hideous, faschy blob.

I don't think it should be controversial to say, "we will not provide financial or military assistance to a country where the Minister of National Security brags about popping people's dreams of 'food' and 'education' then sending them to a prison where they are starved."

Ben Gvir posted this video on twitter today which shows fat and happy Palestinians on a conveyer built going through the Israeli "prison" (torture camp) system and coming out emaciated and maudlin. This is textbook genocidal content.

I was certain that I couldn't be made to care enough about GTA6 to want to play or on release, but DAMN Rockstar really know how to Market. And obviously how to make exceptional games which makes marketing easier. Not completely there, but I'm now very worried I can be convinced...

I unashamedly love Nintendo's Australian advertising - the quiet tone and warm feeling that's about family, and connection, and wonder - and if they do anything for the Ocarina of Time remake I'm begging them to let me and my daughter do that ad for them.

I played the original on 64 at release. It was the first game that really made me love gaming for the storytelling potential. I've played almost every Zelda since then. Now I play them alongside my daughter, we're unbelievably excited for the remake. Let us show that joy and love for Zelda in an ad!

For a fun twist, my entire family (and much of my wife's family who were at a Birthday Lunch yesterday) have been hit by gastro. I don't know what gypsy we pissed off or what curse she put on us, but I've very much learned whatever lesson was intended and could it stop now please?

I tell ya, if I won the lottery I would improve my standard of living so dramatically. I would be able to - - Pay off my mortgage and car loans - Afford a gym membership - Buy every video game and console I've always wanted and spend all day playing instead of ever going to the gym

Fellow BUSTER KEATON fans will enjoy Jim Jarmusch telling the story of how if it hadn’t been for JAMES MASON buying Keaton’s old house in the 1980’s almost every film Buster made would’ve been lost to us forever. Incredible.

All winter I've not been wearing blue jeans because the pair I had - 38 waist, usually very comfortable - were feeling unreasonably tight, which was quite depressing. This morning I realised I had a pair of 36 and a 38, the latter buried at the bottom of the drawer. I do not feel smart.

I filmed an audition this week for a US film. Today a work colleague (also actor) said "you should try to audition for [ThatFilm], I got the script and was thinking of you while I read it, you're so right for that film!" Realistically, still a longshot. But DAMN that was nice to hear.
