Trans folks and allies: Vote as if we are all going to be in a concentration camp using the same bathroom if you sit out because some dem isn't being pro-trans enough.

Imagine drinking 14 space beers, smoking some death sticks, and gambling your kids college funds on the Boonta Eve Classic

there’s no such thing as “strategic bigotry.” I know this because there is no amount of money you could pay me to become a bigot. the democrats who do this agree to do it because they’re bigots

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

Replying to @ianboudreau.com

If it's the sound political strategy you claim to believe it is, what are you worried about, you'll more than make those lost votes up in disgusting centrists, right? Right? But you know deep down it doesn't work like that

All these pseudo-Socratic "lesser evil" arguments make more sense once you understand that the greater evil is "bad for me" and the lesser evil is "bad for someone I don't care about."

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

It is, fundamentally, an exercise of choosing the lesser evil, over and over and over again, so that the total amount of evil in the system decreases over time. And you must keep doing it, because - since evil is easy - good is easily reversed.

The most recent presidential electional had the democratic nominee promising to keep supporting a genocide, and a large part of the base spent their free time defending said genocide, and insisted that you had to support genocide too or the republicans would do genocide

🧵 Matt Yglesias is one of the biggest reasons the Democratic Party leadership is so feckless, cowardly, and lazy. I'm not exaggerating. Yglesias is often a featured speaker at private Democratic Party events, despite almost always being wrong. Let's discuss...

$446 million of his (sometime) reported net worth of $1 trillion means he’s still only spending 0.0446% of his net worth to try to buy elections. put in more concrete terms: if you had $100, this would be like spending less than 5 cents. now tell me again why i should vote against a wealth tax.

"The past two years are all the proof you need that sitting out an election because the better candidate happens to not be perfectly to your liking is completely stupid and self-destructive."

I think a huge reason Elon Musk is so virulently transphobic is not simply that his daughter transitioned & went no contact, but that he did everything he could to make sure all his kids were boys b/c he hates women, & one of those children deliberately & publicly embracing being female enrages him.

decent goal but incredibly funny to follow “blow up the system” with “campaign finance and transparency reforms.” That definitionally is *not* blowing up the system lol

Mallory McMorrow@mallorymcmorrow.bsky.social

I hope Democrats are ready to blow up the system with campaign finance and transparency reforms. Trust is already at an all-time low. We don't get out of this mess without rebuilding trust.

I applied to be a Democratic political consultant, and I made it to the final round of interviews. It went well, but then they found a few instances where I said something and wasn't totally and utterly wrong while being arrogantly out of touch, so I didn't get the job.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

this is the reason these questions are asked. it doesn't matter how well el-sayed answers, the media get to write a headline with his name and the muslim brotherhood in it. heated, islamist, implications, criticize, disavow, dual loyalty, scary man bad

Again, we have done upwards of 300 focus groups since outset of 2021 & in ones where we asked folks open ended what's wrong with Dems zero times has anyone volunteered anything about trans people. It's possible, yes, to lead them there but it's not top of mind.

Fascinating tidbit in this interview with former Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont), he says that Texas Republicans anti-transgender ads aren't "resonating." Pretty surreal how sharing a traumatic story about my daughter's birth elicited someone to call it "insane bullshit". I was just trying to contextualize why people are right to call our healthcare system dogshit, and also why you don't have to be an asshole if you disagree.

I'd suggest sneering "insane bullshit" at someone for feeling stressed out about having to handle hours on the phone over a half million dollar bill after dealing with a birth and NICU stay is why people can't stand you

When is? Serious question. Every election has been the most important one ever, so I’ve been told. I’ve seen elected democrats that roll over to big tech, throw trans people under the bus, and won’t oppose genocide and they’re also dogshit at opposing fascism.

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

I keep seeing liberals post about how excited they are to see the Dems put the entire Trump administration in jail when they regain power. And every single one of them will change their tune and make excuses about how the Dems just don't have the power to do it when it doesn't happen.
