The loud bangs and flashes of fireworks can be very scary and distressing to cats and other pets. If you are one of the 69% of cat owners who have seen your cat be affected by fireworks, follow Cats Protection's checklist to keep your cat safe and less stressed this winter.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Here’s a hypothesis- a thought experiment. Drugs can both reflect AND shape the culture & mood of a society. Currently cocaine & ketamine are rife. Paronoir, ego feeding, individualism, disassociation, loneliness,, short termist hedonism (think of ket bladder)👇 www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

positive action & unity going into the late 90s. So just as a thought experiment- & reflecting on how culture influences drug taking and drug influences culture, what would happen if all the heavy ket and/or cocaine users did a (hypothetical) swap to moderate use of MDMA and hallucigen mushrooms 👇

Drugs reflecting a society where lack of connection became systemic after 14 years Tory austerity. Then look at ‘88 second summer of love into the 90s “things can only get better” associated with rise of MDMA & mushrooms, rival football hooligans influenced to hug each other on the dance floor,👇

connection and curiosity, investment in community. Oh don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that the 90s were perfect. It was very difficult & millions unemployed, pensioner poverty, Cold War, & lots of bad shit. Nor is *everything* bad now. But there was a huge mood of potential for 👇

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

Tate has announced it has acquired 50 artworks from 18thC and 19thC India, gifted by the art historian Charles Greig. A highlight is Johan Zoffany’s 1784 portrait of Prince Jawan Bakht, one of three portraits of Indian sitters by Zoffany in UK public collections

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Its not that all cocaine users are domestic abusers (& also see the huge Venn diagramme with Stephen Yaxley Lennon & Daniel Thomas’ fellow travellers who terrorise asylum seekers & anyone disagreeing with them), it’s more the majority of domestic abusers etc also take cocaine… 👇

Probably (just a guess) because they are insecure ppl unable to self sooth w a hole inside them who rely on externalising their fears through blaming “the other”, & taking cocaine to boost their ego, because they can’t stand to actually look at themselves. A sad indictment on them, & our society. 🥺

I’d like to see some proper independent research cited w your assertions Dale. Many friends who hv heat pumps report them working v well - efficient & cheap to run, NESTA has many case studies of them working well, but you are v binary about them not working ‘ever’. It undermines your credibility 😳🥺

I thought (let me know if I’m wrong!) employers don’t pay NI for under 21s & also for apprenticeships under 25’s. 18-20 yr olds get lower minimum wage at £10.85 per hour. Is that not an incentive to employers to take on a post 18 trainee? Genuine question - it doesn’t seem to be & I’m curious why 👍😊

“The Energy Wealth Fund” will in effect ringfence some North Sea oil and gas tax revenues for investment in renewables & low carbon energy industries. Isn’t this part of the story too? If the Burnham govt is investing in faster transition & renewable industry, then this is also important messaging

UK & EU better have some post mid term contingency plan -as shld USA Democrats. Trunp is getting increasingly disinhibited, signs many ppl say remind them dementia. Trump also wants to be seen as powerful, admires/wants to be like Putin, has denied election results & been ok with ICE murders. 👇

If the USA Democrats do as well as polls suggest they may do in midterm elections, there is a chance Trump may go full January 6th on steroids using force on USA people and/or USA elected representatives. He may also attempt to “assert authority” on the world stage if domestic options are curtailed👇

I can only hope if I can see this, then maybe the USA democrats can see this, UK & “coalition of the willing” supporting Ukraine can see this, & EU & middle powers across Europe, & like Japan, Canada etc etc can see this too & are doing some contingency planning for if Trump has a global meltdown 😳
