Well, it happened: Prime Minister Mark Carney announced plans to open up Canada’s four largest airports to private investment. So....privatization. That's not the only thing he pledged to a room of obnoxiously rich people. I talked to economists and a top labour leader to break this down:

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:

I'm not a pro-ban person when it comes to substances but it remains beyond insane that 7-OH is being marketed and sold like it's 5 Hour Energy. This shit is not normal "kratom" and it's not an energy supplement. It's fucking Oxy and if you get addicted to it you will get dopesick.

I feel terrible for all the space nerds whose aspirations are now being subverted by a violent white supremacist cult.

This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

Why do the "real" pictures look like a early 90s CD-ROM game.

The Parr House from Incredibles 2 is now a real-life location in Cotino, the first Storyliving by Disney community in Southern California. Here's a look at how it compares to the Pixar movie. bit.ly/3Luwxyx

LMAO, holy shit. This is a scene from 30 Rock or Seinfeld.

Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest. The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says. "I could smell the onions and mustard."

Goddamn I've forgotten how much I love this music. Haven't really listened to classical or Chopin recently, as most of my time I spend listening to podcasts or Ms. Rachel at home. There's still beauty in this clogged toilet of a world.

An antisemite shot two kids in Colorado, at least one of whom is Jewish. The White House “fighting antisemitism” doesn’t care, because the shooter was a student radicalized online into far right beliefs, which the regime is cool with, rather than a student verbally criticizing Israeli govt policy.

NEW: No, Charlie Kirk was not practicing politics the right way. That's what Ezra Klein said. We can condemn this heinous assassination but also recognize that with his 2020 election denialism and extremist rhetoric, Kirk built his movement with falsehoods and in a wrong and divisive manner.

motherjones.comNo, Charlie Kirk was not practicing politics the right wayHis assassination deserves full condemnation; his full impact should not be sidestepped.

“They’re taking our jobs” was always a lie. Alabama proved it. Alabama tried a “tough” immigration law, and it backfired hard. Immigrants fled, crops rotted, and farms collapsed. Americans tried to step in but couldn’t last a day. They’re not taking your jobs; they’re doing the jobs you won’t do.

The thing that's so difficult in fighting pseudoscience is that its followers fundamentally don't believe in expertise. Exceptional people? Sure. The naturally gifted? of course. But I've talked to people face-to-face who simply don't believe people can get better at things.

I smelled the stench of conservative activism on this story from a mile away. Fuck these clowns.

We’ve learned that conservative activist groups gave Alberta officials examples of “inappropriate” books now facing a ban in K-12 school libraries under new government guidelines. The education minister initially said he was approached by concerned parents. #abpoli #bookban

UCP Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides claimed in his announcement this week that his proposed school library book ban was a response to complaints from "concerned parents." But he actually got the list from anti-LGBTQ lobby group Parents for Choice in Education

When I left the Washington Post in 2023, my colleagues and I were worried AI would hoover up our work and enable "zombies" to churn out stories based on our reporting and writing styles. Today WaPo announced a partnership with OpenAI. And here it is: Zombie Gillian Brockell. I DID NOT WRITE THIS.
